**Working Schedule**: 35 hours per week

**Qualifications**:
A Bachelor's Degree notably Social Work, Education, or Psychology or in an appropriate specialty.

**Other Requirements**:
Must be fluently bilingual (French and English)

Experience working with teenagers, and adults in difficulty

Experience working with vulnerable youth, those at-risk or in difficulty

Understanding of the link between social-emotional learning, drop-out prevention, and school success

Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting

Knowledge of the Québec system of education and high school leaving requirements (e.g. Educational practices, curriculum issues, credits)

Knowledge of the Adult and Vocational Education sector programs, resources, and pathways

Ability to assist school staff in developing and implementing interventions suited to students’ individual needs

Ability to work simultaneously with families, schools, community organizations and Health and Social Services partners in response to the needs of students

Ability to work with individuals/groups

Ability to lead in-service sessions for school staff

Knowledge of community resources and services and procedures to accessing services

Experience working in adult psychiatry and systems of care an asset

Evidence of continuous professional growth

Salary scale as per the SPPOQA CollectiveAgreement

$27.05 - $47.98 per hour

Nature of the work

The position of social service officer encompasses, in particular, responsibility for prevention, promotion, detection and intervention activities with students and groups of students experiencing or likely to experience emotional, social, school or family problems to ensure that the conditions are in place to foster their psychosocial development.

Daily Tasks/Dossiers

Works with a multidisciplinary team to help draw up and review a student’s individualized education plan, while considering the personal, family, school, and social context to help them overcome their problems as well as to develop and maintain motivation in school; engages other team members to harmonize and coordinate interventions and to assess the achievement of objectives

Initiates communication and provides insight to the centre to better meet the student’s needs and to provide necessary support and supervision to ensure the student’s progress and success in school

Participates in the preparation, promotion and delivery of detection, awareness-building and prevention programs on topics related to the problems experienced by youths

May be called upon to help defuse crisis or emergency situations and to recommend solutions

Makes links to community groups or organizations to help build capacity within the adult and vocational centres

Adapts existing youth sector plans and protocols to fit the needs of the adult population

Acts as a resource for school staff and resource teams

Provides ongoing support, coaching and professional development to school staff on supporting families with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties and/or trauma informed practices

Provides professional development systemically in areas of social and emotional learning and mental health and family intervention

Work with community partners (CLSC, Destination Travail, Aire Ouverte, Douglas Hospital, CHUM, MUHC) to help students and the greater school community

May be called to work with schools in other school boards as well as the Lester B Pearson School Board to offer services and supports to students

May be called to work with staff during the term to support the PACC Student Services team.

Develop community links and partnerships within the area and surrounding areas of Lasalle
