As the Court Liaison Officer at the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD), you will join the Court Services Team to ensure our community receives the policing services it needs.
The NWPD is a mid-sized police department, with over 200 employees. As the Court Liaison Officer, you will work as part of the team, engaged reviewing police files, submitting reports to Crown Counsel, and monitoring charged persons as they move through the criminal justice system. You will have a Supervisor available who will provide guidance, support and work alongside you when needed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Reviewing and transmitting prosecution reports to Crown Counsel;
- Processing charged persons through the criminal justice system;
- Review investigative reports to Crown Counsel;
- Monitor files as charged persons move through the criminal justice system;
- Ensure all information included in court files is accurate and complete and that files are processed in a timely manner;
- Swear informations; process Subpoena/Summons; process LENS/Denotes; and,
- Preform related work as required.
**What you’ll bring to this role**
You will have experience and success in many of the following areas:
- You have experience as a Court Liaison Officer, or similar type of work in a related role.

- You have the ability to interpret law, rules and regulations.
- You have considerable knowledge of the criminal justice system and court procedures.
- You have the ability to read and assess reports for clarity and completeness in order to ensure that all proper investigative and evidentiary requirements are met.
- You have a demonstrated ability to act calmly and effectively in challenging situations.
- You have considerable knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Motor Vehicle Act and other appropriate bylaws and regulations; as well as knowledge of other agencies or services available.
- You have the ability to work alongside your team members, establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people.
- You have an ability to liaise with investigators and supervisors to ensure that requests from Crown Counsel are responded to in a timely manner.
- You have an ability to demonstrate tact, discretion and professionalism in the handling of sensitive and/or confidential information.
- You have sound knowledge of the methods and procedures used in the operation of police databases, such as CAD, CPIC, PRIME/RMS, JUSTIN, CORNET, and other related databases.
- You have thorough knowledge of police department units and functions.
- You are able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

- This position works five consecutive 7-hour days including weekend shifts. _
- Monday to Friday shifts are 0600 - 1400 hours; Saturday and Sunday shifts are 0500 - 1300 hours._
