Job Title: MDML Student Project Assistant - AV collections
Reports to: Associate Librarian
Hour of work: 20 hours
Hourly Rate: $15.85
Classification: AMUSE A
Duration: May - August 31, 2024
Job Summary:
The student in this position will work on 2 projects related to AV Collections. One project is to transfer digital assets from the CBC Montreal Radio Music Programs Archive to the Marvin Duchow Music Library’s digital preservation repository, Gomez. The student will be required to assist with data entry and mínimal organization of these assets. They will also assist with data reconciliation, ensuring that the textual and audiovisual records of this archival fonds are properly linked in the McGill Library Archival Collections Catalogue (AtoM). The student will also contribute to a 2nd project, the interfiling of CBC/Radio Canada LPs. This will involve checking for condition, refreshing materials, removing any duplicates, and helping with the discard of materials not retained for the Library collection.
Occasionally, the work may entail assisting with housing and occasional shifting of AV materials.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Excellent knowledge of music and music materials, preferably with some formal training. Knowledge of music AV formats, as well as audio and video equipment and materials. Demonstrated organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to clearly transmit and receive information. Must be user-focused and service-oriented. Demonstrated ability to cope with physical requirements: handling, carrying, and lifting of library materials. Library or similar experience preferred. English: spoken, read and written. French: spoken and read. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) on a scale of 0-4. Other languages an asset.
