**A Career with the Reserve Force**

The Army Reserve generally work **part-time **within their community. You are not posted to another city or required to do a military relocation. However, you can volunteer to move to another Base and you may also volunteer for deployment on a military mission within or outside Canada. As a Reservist, the choice to go is always voluntary. We are a **part-time** component of the Canadian Army which is trained to augment the Regular Army (full-time) and aid civilian authorities during crisis or emergency situations (floods, ice storms, forest fires, political gatherings).

**Income & Benefits**

As a Reservist, you are paid a half day and a full day rate. Rates increase after courses are completed, you are promoted and as you gain experience in each Rank.

Uniforms and military gear is provided at no cost.

Meals and accommodations are provided during weekend field training, summer training, deployment training and deployment.

Extra pay is provided while on field, summer or deployment training, and deployments.

Travel assistance may be available to you depending on how far away from the Armoury you live.

There are education reimbursements available through the Canadian Armed Forces. The Royal Canadian Logistics Service Branch, Royal Canadian Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Branch, many Royal Canadian Legions and several other organizations provide scholarships and bursaries that may be available toward your post-secondary education.

Dental coverage (for most items) is 90%, and you will contribute toward a Pension which provides financial and health benefits when you retire.

**Qualifications**
- be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondaire IV (in Quebec)
- have parental consent if under age 18
- meet Canadian Armed Forces medical standards
- successfully complete selection process, interview and examinations
- pass physical fitness tests

CSS Trades are in search of applicants that want to diversify their experience or new untrained applicants that want to utilize the Reserve to develop their civilian careers. As a Weapons Technician you will learn the skills of a part-time soldier while training to repair, adjust and replace weapons hardware from small arms to 105mm howitzers. Weapons Technicians are trained to "fix everything else that needs to be fixed" which can include bicycles, locksmithing, and propane appliances. Additional training is available which will train you to work on the M777 155 mm howitzer and armoured vehicle weapons platforms. The Army Reserve works with the Alberta Apprenticeship Board so your new skills are transferrable.

We are located at Debney Armoury, 8403 Roper Road in Edmonton. Regular training is from September to May on Wednesday evenings, one Saturday a month and one weekend a month. 41 Service Battalion schedules Information Briefs at the Armoury.
