**Do you want to make a difference in the lives of animals in your community?**:
The Nova Scotia SPCA is looking for motivated and dedicated **Animal Protection Officers** for our Dartmouth location. Operating under the Animal Protection Act and municipal animal by-laws, you will play an important role relating to public safety and animal welfare. Through your community work, you will monitor and respond to calls for service regarding animal care or neglect concerns and animal by-law related calls. Your public interactions will display your strong interpersonal and communication skills as you focus on compliance of applicable laws, providing investigations into complaints as required.

Through the Nova Scotia SPCA you will receive training that will augment your formal education and/or your experience with a law enforcement position.

We are looking for applicants who have emotional maturity, and are kind, compassionate and caring towards the animals and people we serve.

**FORMAL EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE**
- Completion of Grade Twelve (12) or equivalent.
- Completion of Enforcement training from a recognized institution is an asset
- Courses in safe handling of dogs/handling of dangerous dogs.
- Valid NS Class 5 Driver’s licence.
- Including a minimum of two (2) years of dog control experience is an asset.

**Knowledge and Qualifications/Skills required**
- The ability to respond to client/public inquiries and complaints and handle sensitive and confidential information in a trusted and responsible manner
- The ability to travel and work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends and be on-call
- Medically and physically fit to work in all weather conditions (cold, hot, rain, etc) as this position may require bending, lifting and transporting animals in need.
- As your career progresses, you’ll also complete job-required courses related to the role, as well as other specialized training including Animal Protection
- Providing dog Bylaw and Community Safety awareness, education, and prevention to the community and public
- Providing dog bylaw enforcement services on First Nation Reserves and certain counties where contracts are in place with the SPCA for this service.
- Must be able to work with other staff, volunteers, and the public in a positive, practical manner and be able to work with minimum supervision
- Excellent computer skills, statement writing and preparing court documents
- Will require a criminal record check and an appointment from the Department of Justice.
