Overview:
The Treasury & Investment Analyst is accountable for detailed analysis and reporting of financial information in relation to the University’s investments, cash management and related financial services, the scale of which includes the University’s operating, trust and endowment funds, as well as the University’s pension plan. The position is responsible for both historical reporting and future forecasting and works with a variety of external service providers and internal groups/teams. The scope and nature of the University’s investments and treasury functions are widely varied, and as a result, the Investment & Treasury Analyst requires a broad understanding of University’s operations, financial processes and services, as well some high-level knowledge of capital markets.

**Responsibilities**:
Investment Reporting
- Generate monthly reporting comparing investment performance to applicable benchmarks and investment mix to approved investment asset class ranges
- Generate quarterly reports for Board investment committees relating to investment performance and progress on ESG/Responsible Investment activities
- Prepare annual reports on compliance with Investment Guidelines and Statement of Investment Policies and Principles
- Participate in the preparation of the annual UN PRI survey/report for both the University and the University’s pension plan
- Participate in the preparation of the financial statements for the University’s pension plan

Cash Flow Review/Accounting
- Analyze endowment investment performance and participate in the development of the annual expendable rate, establishing commitments within the financial system to represent projected income/expendable amounts
- Project, track and monitor income earned within the endowment to best facilitate spending plans and transfers from the endowment’s investment pool to the operating accounts
- Work with various University departments and Finance teams to develop and maintain overall cash flow forecasting/analysis, considering working capital needs, capital project expenditures and liquidity of funds
- Prepare analysis and reporting on cash balances, trends and sources
- Work with the Associate Director, Treasury to facilitate an appropriate investment plan for operating funds, taking into consideration current and future cash needs and the framework established by University policies and procedures
- Prepare monthly journal entries to record monthly investment income and other related investment activities.
- Prepare year-end working papers for the University’s investments and endowment fund
- Support annual audit and any special purpose audit procedures relating to Trust and Endowment funds

Investment/Financial Services Review
- Review charges from financial service providers and ensure accuracy to contractual terms and conditions
- Participate in periodic Finance initiated investment manager reviews and evaluations
- Compile and analyze information on the University’s direct investments, coordinating the retrieval of necessary information with various University departments.
- Participate in identifying and recommending new financial services available from the University’s banks and other financial services providers and assist in coordinating their implementation
- Participate in selection processes for new financial services providers as required and co-ordinate periodic reviews their performance

Other
- Participate in and support other department projects as required
- Provide backup to other Finance functions as required
- Develop productive, collaborative working relationships with colleagues
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in terms of efficiencies and leveraging financial systems capabilities and new technologies

Qualifications:

- University undergraduate degree preferably in Accounting, Business or Finance
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation from CPA Canada
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an accounting/finance-related environment
- Demonstrated experience in financial analysis/reporting
- Previous experience with a significant financial system/ERP preferred
- Experience in higher education, public sector, or other not-for-profit environment preferred
- Direct experience in working with Financial Services providers preferred
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage concurrent deadlines accurately and efficiently
- Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
- Advanced interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Comfortable explaining accounting information, policies and procedures to different client groups
- Works independently with a strong work ethic
- Works well in team settings
- Strong computer skills including advanced Microsoft tools (ie. Excel, Teams, and SharePoint)
- Working knowledge of Unit4 Business World would be an asset
