We would support your training to become a licensed Class 5 instructor, the guidance and direction you need to get your small business started, and 15,000+ new and experienced drivers booking driving instruction sessions annually. When you become a Contracted Driving Instructor for AMA Driver Education, you’ll enjoy the freedom of being your own boss, with the safety net of working with the largest driving school in the province.- As an AMA Driving Instructor, you’ll mitigate the risks of starting a small business while enjoying the rewards of teaching Albertans to drive—giving them the keys to independence, mobility and freedom. We’ll provide you with best-in-class instructor training, along with the flexibility to set your own schedule. You’ll wake up every day with a smile, knowing you’re making your community safer for everyone. - Starting competitive hourly rate of $35.00 (in-vehicle instruction time) with the potential to increase earnings up to an additional $7.00 per hour from bonuses.
- Additional $1.00 per hour with the use of a Luxury or Hybrid vehicle (Luxury vehicle as defined by J.D Power & Associates).
- A fuel subsidy paid as an additional hourly amount on top of your hourly rate (This rate fluctuates based on fuel prices).

- Our corporate registries team can provide all the information you need with starting your own business to help you make sure all the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed.
- As a successful applicant, we have a team of Senior Driving Instructors that will invest their time in ensuring you receive extensive training to acquire your driving instructor licence (in 3 months or less) and become a top-class instructor with a safety focus for our students.

- WHAT YOU’LL DO AS AN INSTRUCTOR:
- Report to the Senior Instructor (think of AMA almost like a board member or investor in your small business).
- Provide quality vehicle instruction to students, following AMA’s instruction requirements and customer service standards.
- Provide constructive feedback on student drivers’ abilities, helping them develop the confidence and skills necessary to become licensed, safe drivers for life.
- Be responsible for student scheduling and submission of daily paperwork.
- Follow Alberta Transportation guidelines and policies for driving instructors.
- Be available after school, evenings and weekends, to meet students' scheduling needs.
- OUR PROCESS:- Step 2 - Once you are successful going through our recruitment process, AMA will invest in training you with the skills required to be a successful driving instructor with 4 classroom (in-person or virtual) instruction sessions, 20 hours of hands-on training with a Senior Instructor using an AMA vehicle, practice exams, and self-study training materials.- Step 3 - After the completion of training, a consensus between yourself and the team will determine your readiness for the written and practical examination to acquire your Provincial Vehicle Instructor Licence from Alberta Transportation.- Step 4 - Once you have acquired your Licence, we’ll help you get started with setting up your small business. This is when you’ll need to get started with the following:
- You’ll have a vehicle that’s no more than six years old.
- You’ll update your vehicle with the required brakes, mirrors, removable roof signs, and door magnets. The latter two are provided for free by AMA, while the brakes and mirrors cost $456.78 (including tax). Should you decide to end your contract, we’ll buy them back
