Retail Store Clerk

We are seeking an energetic, creative, and outgoing team player to assist with retail operations at our thrift store. This is a non-supervisory support position primarily responsible for the processing and presentation of donated materials and assisting with all aspects of store operations. This position will be casual.
**SCOPE OF DUTIES**:
- Operate cash register, debit machine, rag cutter
- Evaluation and processing of donated items and preparation of items for sale
- Visual merchandising, assisting with promotions
- Provide excellent customer service that is timely and courteous
- Pick up supplies, deliver goods when required
- Maintaining store standards
- Other duties as assigned by Retail Operations Coordinator, Social Enterprise Manager or designate
**RESPONSIBILIITES**:
- Receive and assist to unload donations
- Evaluate and sort donations/direct material to appropriate locations
- Pricing; stock shelves, set up displays
- Prepare store/sale signage
- Move stock within the store and between designated locations
- Sell/deliver rags
- Participate in public relations events
- Complete daily cash out/reconciliation; reports and documentation
- Assist with the petty cash system
- Keep informed of stock and pricing and inform customers
- Problem solve customer concern
- Assist with loss prevention strategies
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment; janitorial duties/yard maintenance
- Haul recycling to recycling depot; Haul garbage to dump
- Assist with ensuring lockup is completed
- Attend meetings and training as assigned.
- Assist to orientate others.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Experience in a retail store is preferred.
- Knowledge of business practices is an asset.
- Computer and Numeracy Skills
- Experience in dealing with the general public.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety, as appropriate.
- Able to adapt to a variety of assigned duties and work effectively with different groups of individuals.
- Able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented work environment.
- Have/maintain an Alberta Driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Have/maintain a valid First Aid or CPR certificate is considered an asset.
- Have/maintain an acceptable Police Information Check/Criminal record check.
**WORKING ENVIRONMENT**:
- Thrift Store environment.
- Hours are based on store retail hours. A full time position is 37. 5 hours per week. Schedules vary based on contract.
- Lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs. (bags, boxes, furniture etc.)
- May be required to work outdoors
- May be required to drive/travel/work offsite
- May be temporarily re-assigned to other CCSEL locations as needed
- Handling/Gripping/reaching/bending/twisting
- Walking/Standing for long periods
- Must be able to work retail store hours
- Ability to distinguish colors, sizes, and quality of donations
- Area/donations can by dusty or scented
- CCSE Ltd. provides appropriate PPE
- Closed toed footwear is required
Wages are dependent on qualifications, formal education & related experience.
