Solid Waste Educator

New Glasgow, Canada Pictou County Solid Waste Management Full time

This is a temporary position (Maternity) for an expected duration of approximately 14 months. The Educator reports to the Waste Reduction Coordinator and is responsible for ensuring effective education of the residents and businesses in Pictou County on the Provincial Solid Waste Management Regulations and Municipal By-Laws. You have the skills to educate the effective promotion of environmentally friendly waste management practices and carry out the duties set out in the Education Contract between Divert NS and Pictou County Solid Waste.

**Responsibilities**:
Arrange and deliver waste reduction presentations at schools, community groups, businesses and displays.

Visit Industrial, Commercial and Institutional waste generators in Pictou County to educate and ensure compliance with the Provincial Solid Waste Regulations and Municipal By-Laws.

Work with the haulers to ensure compliance.

Conduct waste audits at the Transfer Station, Industrial Commercial & Institution sector and at the curbside.

Arrange special events such as Waste Reduction Week events & Home Shows, as set out through the Divert NS Education Contract.

Attend Divert NS Regional Educational meetings, Professional Development Workshops.

Design content and manage social media posts using Loomly for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Update and manage the Pictou County Solid Waste Management and the Go Clean Get Green website.

Update ReCollect, the online collection calendar software and app.

Coordinate the annual Go Clean Get Green Litter Initiative.

Participate on the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee

Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
Post Secondary degree or diploma in education, communications, public relations, environmental science or related field.

Excellent communication skills, comfortable speaking to groups.

Knowledge and interest in overall Waste Reduction Programs and Environmental Issues.

Working knowledge in programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Canva.

Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as required.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Exceptional interpersonal skills.

Exceptional in Social media content design and management.

Self-motivated, able to work with mínimal supervision.

Ability to problem solve and effectively deal with difficult situations and/or individuals.

Knowledge of composting and recycling.

Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.

Knowledge of safe work practices in an industrial setting.

This is a Temporary Full Time Position, approximately 14 months.

Salary Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Pay: $45,000.00-$51,500.00 per year
