The Family and Community Action Program of Durham Region is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada under the Community Action Program for Children and is targeted to serve at risk children 6 and under and their families. The funding is delivered through the YMCA of Greater Toronto.
The Community Facilitator ensures that all programs provide quality, service and support to the participants and their families. The Family and Community Action Program of Durham Region is a National Program funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada under the Community Action Program for Children and is targeted to serve at risk children 6 and under and their families.
**In this role, you will**:
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and assign work schedules for all the program staff including the summer staff.
- Ensure all data collection as required is completed and submitted.
- Monitor program implementation and ensure work plan objectives are met.
- Ensure member expectations and needs are understood and address prior to requests; assist members in planning ahead to ensure the children develop to their optimum potential.
- Identify needs of high risk families with children under 6 and develop strategies to engage them in ongoing programs in specific communities across Durham Region.
- Complete documentation for informal and formal evaluations for all FCAP programs as required by the funder for local and national program evaluations.
- Maintain all administrative and financial records of program ensuring required reports are accurate and completed by deadlines as established by the YMCA and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
- Establish, develop and monitor relationships with key community partners and individuals to enhance the services provided to members.
- Provide leadership to community partner teams at local sites, ensuring established work plan with Public Health Agency of Canada is completed.
- Raise awareness human service systems in Durham Region and how they operate including health, education, recreation and social services with members.
- Self manage on-going professional development.
- Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; take a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represent the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner
- Understand the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
- Understand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned
**You bring**:
- University Degree or College Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Social Services or related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with families and children under 6 years of age
- Relevant experience working with families at risk
- Experience in adult facilitation
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of the philosophy of Harm Reduction and determinants of health
- Possesses relevant knowledge of community resources and referral agencies
- A capacity to work within a team and be part of a large multi-service, charitable Association
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Excellent written communication skills
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
- Current First Aid /CPR required
- Access to a vehicle is required for extensive travel throughout the Durham region ; valid G2 driver’s license
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, able to work split shifts, early morning and mid-late afternoons, evenings and weekends
