**OVERVIEW**:
The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) requires an MMIWG2S+ Youth Specialist for the Pathways to Healing Program. The MMIWG2S+ Youth Specialist will provide support to youth family members of MMIWG2S+ in their journeys of justice, healing and commemoration. Reporting to the Pathways to Healing Program Manager, the MMIWG2S+ Youth Specialist is a valuable member of the SCO Team and works with southern First Nation citizens and communities, connecting the children and youth of MMIWG2S+ with culturally safe and trauma-informed supports.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Serve as a point of contact for youth family members of MMIWG2S+ providing support, referrals, information, advocacy, and systems navigation
- Develop and implement MMIWG2S+ family focused initiatives as well as advocate to implement the National Inquiry’s Calls for Justice
- Develop, present, and distribute First Nation youth-specific and culturally relevant resource materials concerning dating violence, sexual violence, healthy relationships, consent, body sovereignty, and other related topics
- Collaborate with the network of partners, agencies, and organizations to provide holistic support to youth family members of MMIWG2S+
- Stay current on First Nation and youth issues and needs in Manitoba, Canada, and internationally; monitor new/emerging trends in social change
- Assist in planning and organizing SCO and community gatherings, events, and ceremonies for MMIWG2S+ family members
- Provide support to youth family members during community gatherings, events, and ceremonies, responding with sensitivity and understanding to experiences and expressions of trauma with referrals to community resources as required
- Develop a resource list of healing and wellness programs and services available for youth family members, including traditional Anishinaabe and Dakota healing and wellness initiatives, and identify areas in which supports do not exist, advocating to fill gaps in services
- Coordinate services to effectively triage to health and wellness services and/or SCO’s Mobile Crisis Response Team, Traditional Healers program, and Harm Reduction program
- Other duties as assigned

**EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Undergraduate degree and/or diploma program in education, child/youth development, counseling, social work, or other relevant field
- At least two years of professional, full-time work experience supporting and advocating for children and/or youth. A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered
- Ability to engage and empathize with families of MMIWG2S+
- Strong understanding of the national crisis of MMIWG2S+, including an understanding of the impacts of colonization on the safety of First Nations women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people
- Extensive knowledge of systematic barriers, community resources, system navigation, and referral options
- Understanding of Anishinaabe and Dakota cultures and traditions and respect for community protocols as they pertain to traditional gatherings and events
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage a wide range of projects, manage competing timelines, and navigate shifting priorities in a fast paced environment
- Experience facilitating training and/or workshops for youth audiences
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Must be skilled in working with a web browser, Windows platforms, and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

**Preferred**:

- Fluency in Anishinaabemowin or Dakota language would be considered an asset

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**:

- Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (with vulnerable sector) and a clear Child Abuse Registry Check
- Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Must have a valid Class 5 MB Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle for occasional travel
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
