**Position Summary**:
The Communications Advisor supports the internal and external communication needs of the organization, by planning, organizing, and providing content for a variety of communication channels. The position is involved in a wide variety of special events and keeps staff and members of the community informed while continually showcasing the programs and people of the organization to elevate the profile of HDGH and support its strategic plan. The Communications Advisor is a project planner and implementer. This position requires a strong team player and gifted writer who has a proven ability to independently manage multiple files in a creative, efficient manner.

**Qualifications**:

- RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Prepares media advisories and /or media releases as requested
- Communications strategy development: Produce or oversee the development of communications materials including research, writing, editing, and creative conceptualization for various internal and external communications initiatives
- Project management: Develop detailed tactical communications plans aligned with the overall requirements of various internal projects and initiatives
- Supports staff internal communication objectives
- Contributes to drafting, editing, scheduling, and drafting for a wide range of internal and external publications (could include, the HDGH Patient Guide, HDGH Blog, corporate brochures, etc), always ensuring consistency in message and tone.
- Edits photos and videos and archives them for future use, in conjunction with other team members.
- Works with other HDGH departments to help plan and promote special events. This includes support of the events through promotion and day of event details.
- Assist in setting up audio and video needs for town hall meetings and other events
- Works with departments and vendors on design and signage requests including content development, pricing production, and delivery
- Collaborates with the communications team to create a social media plan in support of HDGH’s strategic objectives and builds an engaged audience base on social media platforms
- Identifies threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding HDGH.
- Monitors, responds, and interacts promptly with all HDGH’s social media outlets following HDGH policies, strategic directions, and values
- Monitors and evaluates all HDGH Social Media through 3rd party software and analytics
- Collaborates with the Communications team to identify stories and other content that support and are consistent with HDGH’s strategic objectives for internal and external promotion. Identifies elements of a newsworthy story and supports the efforts of the Director to garner media attention for HDGH news, events, and research.
- Provide background and briefing information to the Director on areas of potential media interest and/or reputational issues
- Leads the Implementation of Special Projects as identified by the Director of Communications
- Identifies the need and seeks out education seminars, and practical experience required to maintain self-competency. - Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time. - Work flexible hours and days to coordinate with events and special occasions as required - Work in a team atmosphere assisting where needed and collaborating with other team members on projects.
- QUALIFICATIONS:

- A seasoned communicator with the ability to handle complex projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment with strong time management and organizational skills; attention to detail, excellent writing and editing skills; expertise in web-based communication; knowledge and experience in media relations.
- Ability to possess a strategic approach to problem-solving and anticipating potential reputational issues
- 5+ years of progressive communications experience, including communications planning and execution
- Ability to balance tactical and strategic perspective, political and professional acumen, and strong conflict management skills
- Demonstrates excellent political acumen of federal, provincial, and municipal politics and their relationship and influence on HDGH and the healthcare sector
- Ability to synthesize significant amounts of information and develop strategies to advance HDGH’s brand and internal culture.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and as part of a team; a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Detailed knowledge of the appropriate software including Office365, MSTeams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign
