JOB SUMMARY
As a member of the Distribution Engineering and Asset Management team, the Manager, Metering Systems is accountable for the overall performance of specification, development and implementation of smart metering services, including project management and coordination with departments and outside agencies. This includes directing the effective and efficient performance of residential and commercial smart metering equipment installations and maintenance. Delivering value to the organization through a Measurement Canada accredited and ISO 9001 registered for-profit Meter Shop Organization (MSO). As such, this individual must foster an innovative culture to permit and maintain a high level of technical and business competency within the unit.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES- Manage staff, contractors and annual multi-million dollar budget.- Promote the corporate health and safety program within the areas of responsibility and adherence to his/her responsibilities as stated in Section 27 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.- Provide advice to the Director of Engineering and Asset Management, on matters related to the safe operation and the short and long-term viability of metering equipment.- Prepare annual capital, operational and human resource plans, monitor the effectiveness of the operations, processes, procedures, practices on the systems, develops recommendations and implements necessary changes and improvements both at the planning and operational levels.- Prepare business case analyses and financial justifications.- Know and fulfill your responsibilities as an Asset Service Provider as described in the Hydro Ottawa Strategic Asset Management Plan. As it relates to your role:
- Define and manage the strategies, standards, operational planning, maintenance planning, and capital planning of Hydro Ottawa’s assets; and- Efficiently implement of the operational plans, maintenance plans and capital works plans for Hydro Ottawa assets.- Make effective use of standard business software suites (e.g. MS Office).- Continuously review and implement human resource planning by selecting staff, contractors, ensuring appropriate training is provided, delegating tasks and assignments, defining goals, communicating feedback on performance and ensuring strict adherence to all Health and Safety standards and other applicable laws and regulations.- Review operational plans and budget data to extract and translate relevant responsibilities into projects and annual work plans for the installation of new smart meters, replacing obsolete metering equipment and apparatus to make them smart metering compliant.-
- Ensure a sound electrical distribution system is maintained by developing and monitoring a maintenance program.- Represent the utility with external stakeholders by establishing and maintaining strategic relationships including government agencies, industry colleagues, etc.- Ensure adequate response time to outages by ensuring the type and quantity of equipment, material, supplies and personnel required to effectively deal with emergency situations are in place.- On call duties as per regular schedule.- Specific quality management responsibilities and duties are outlined in the Quality System Procedure Manual.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- University degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years relevant leadership experience, or;- Metering Journeyperson with 15 years experience, 5 years in a supervisory position- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.- English language skills essential, Bilingualism (French/English) or other languages an asset
This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

$147,369.15
