Coverdale Justice Society provides support and specialized services to women and gender-diverse individuals experiencing the justice system in Nova Scotia. We work to improve access to justice, provide alternatives to the traditional justice system, and enhance public safety and well-being in our communities. Our dedicated team of helping professionals provide high-quality supports which include court-based, housing-based and community-based services.

Coverdale operates Honour House, a supportive housing facility in Halifax that offers flexible and voluntary support services for women and gender diverse individuals who are experiencing poverty, mental illness, addictions, homelessness, and the criminal justice system. Honour House provides 12 single-occupied rooms, shared living spaces and on-site 24/7 wrap-around services and supports.

**Summary**

Under the supervision of the House Director and/or designate the Justice Support Worker is responsible for the delivery of gender informed, trauma responsive and restoratively driven support services to residents as well as the operation of the facility. This includes but is not exclusive to; intakes and discharges for the residence, crisis intervention, eviction prevention, life skills training, program delivery, community referrals, advocacy, restorative circles, facility maintenance and household duties.

**Purpose**

Honour House aims to break harmful cycles of homelessness and incarceration by providing assertive interventions within a high tolerance environment to clients who are moderate to high-acuity.

**Responsibilities**:

- Support the creation and maintenance of a restorative environment
- Develop rapport with residents, developing opportunities for trust
- Ensure that all interactions are carried out in a culturally responsive, safe, dignified, and empathetic manner.
- Support residents in maintaining their housing and following the rules and responsibilities.
- Conduct wellness checks, bail supervision checks, and contact the authorities where required.
- Engage in the maintenance of a clean and healthy living and working environment.
- Prepare rooms for new residents and assist with any repairs.
- Participate in meal prep as needed.
- Complete daily cleaning responsibilities.
- Be familiar with harm reduction principles and be able to put them into practice.
- Provide access to storage lockers and ensure residents are using them.
- Support Residents in accessing harm reduction supplies. Keeps supplies stocked.
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of overdose and respond accordingly.
- Prepare sharps bins for pick up by Mainline.
- Support residents in accessing appropriate medical care through MOSH.
- Assist residents to resolve and/or mitigate conflict.
- Assist residents to maintain the cleanliness of their room.
- Other duties as assigned by the House Director and/or designate.

Pay: $51,324.00 per year
