Our services are accomplished by assisting persons involved in the criminal justice system; providing access to counselling and referral services for clients with substance abuse and detox support issues; providing advocate services for Indigenous family and youth. **The Position**

The Indigenous Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor is part of a multidisciplinary team, who works with individuals to provide culturally appropriate approach assessment and help them and their families through the process of rehabilitation and recovery from Substance Misuse.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

The Indigenous Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor will provide services to individuals, groups, or families according to the client needs in addition to: Intake, Orientation, Assessment, Treatment Planning,

Counselling, Case Management, Intervention, Education, Referral, Record-keeping and Reporting, Cross-Consultation, and Outreach.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Education**
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and a demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous people. **Preference will be given to individuals with an indigenous background as per section of Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.**
- Ability to work alone, traveling for counselling, and group facilitation and event coordination.
- Must have a Certification in Addiction Counselling.
- Licensed or eligible to be licensed within a Regulated Mental Health Profession in British Columbia.
- Progressive clinical and administrative experience with a background highlighted by mental health and behavioral development skills. This position is in-person.
- Strong strategic thinking, organizational abilities, and communication, as well as an appreciation of the benefits of collaborative inter-departmental functioning in an ever-changing environment.
- Access to a reliable vehicle and a class 5 license is required. Regular travel to Surrey is required.
