**Your role**

Are you an ambitious self-starter and collaborative team player who is passionate about local news and current events, excels at breaking news on all platforms, and has a strong interest in uncovering issues that matter to your audience?
CBC Ottawa is looking for an experienced Reporter/Editor to join our news team. An exceptional journalist and a keen observer, you must be able to report on a broad range of issues and thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of a multiplatform newsroom.

You will also often be the first person to report on major news as it's occurring. Precision and attention to detail are paramount in these situations. A demonstrated ability to handle sensitive stories with empathy, fairness and balance is required.
You will primarily work weekday mornings, starting at 6 a.m., and you will be expected to gather news stories for audio, digital and video platforms.
In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories resonate with the communities we serve.

**Key tasks**:

- Report on breaking or original stories for digital, audio and video formats that will engage and inform the audience, deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.
- Regularly present stories on-air, providing context to enhance the audience’s understanding of issues.
- Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.
- Distill large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.
- Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts, especially those routinely involved in breaking news situations
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the needs of all facets of the newsroom are met during a breaking news story.
- A minimum of two years experience, with a proven track record of covering breaking news.
- Strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Ottawa.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments with considerable deadline constraints and a significant degree of public scrutiny.
- Willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms.
- Ability to forge positive team relationships and keen to work on a team that values collaboration.
- Demonstrated writing skills.
- Demonstrated video storytelling skills.
- Demonstrated solid news judgment.
- Deep knowledge of and connection to equity-seeking communities across Ottawa.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and to respond to competing demands in a short span of time.
- Exceptional proven organizational skills.
- Experience delivering live debriefs on radio and television.
