MacEwan University is seeking a Director, Cyber Security and Chief Information Security Officer for a full-time continuing opportunity with IT Services. Reporting to the AVP, Information Services and CIO, this leadership position establishes, maintains, and executes an institutional strategy and program to protect the University's stakeholders and its intellectual assets from cyber threats. You and your team will serve as one of the interface points to the rest of the organization and you will provide vision and leadership in developing and supporting cyber security principles and culture among University leadership and our technology ecosystem.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading strategic cyber security planning to achieve business goals by prioritizing defense initiatives and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future security technologies using a risk-based assessment methodology;
- Developing and executing a sustainable cyber security program within the University to protect its intellectual property and stakeholders from growing global cyber-threats, including incident reporting, user training, and mitigation measures;
- Developing and maintaining cyber security policies and procedures in accordance with industry best practices and in compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures;
- Developing and communicating security strategies and plans to executive council and other stakeholders;
- Assessing, evaluating, and making expert recommendations to IT leadership, University leadership and the Board of Governors on the adequacy of security controls for the University's technology ecosystem, including sponsoring and responding to cyber audits and engaging with stakeholders across the University to align cyber security measures with business programs;
- Collaborating with the CIO, the Information and Privacy Office, and HR to establish and maintain a system for ensuring that security and privacy policies are met;
- Defining and communicating institutional plans, procedures, policies, and standards for acquiring, implementing, and operating new security systems, equipment, software, and other technologies;
- Managing the administration of all computer security systems and their corresponding or associated software, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, cryptography systems, and anti-virus software;
- Collaborating with Facilities on physical security systems and their corresponding equipment or software, including fire alarms, locks, intruder detection systems, sprinkler systems, and anti-theft measures as they integrate into MacEwan's technology infrastructure;
- Advocating for the institution's security vision through regular written and in-person communications with the executive council, leaders, and end users;
- Creatively providing resolution to security problems in a cost-effective manner;
- Leading the team in managing cyber security incidents and conducting root cause analyses for continuous improvement;
- Acting as primary liaison with cyber security organizations at the local, provincial and federal level, both generic and specific to higher education institutions;
