**Position Summary**:
The Controls Supervisor serves as the lead controls maintenance delivery resource for the Mechanical Services (Controls) unit. This individual will provide specific focus on mechanical controls implementation, budgeting, scheduling systems, scheduling work assignments and quality control, and will be a key resource to the Mechanical Services (Controls) unit. Direct supervision responsibilities for the Controls Technicians.

**Primary Duties**:
Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Services, this position coordinates, leads and directs the daily workflow of repair and preventative maintenance on all campus control systems and components. This position performs a full range of highly skilled and complex tasks to ensure the timely execution of mechanical controls maintenance, repair and mechanical service operations on campus. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of the principles and practices within the Mechanical Trades. Work is substantially complex and varied, and requires the interpretation of technical and detailed guidelines, policies and procedures in combination. This position is required to supervise and coordinate the activities of the Controls Technicians engaged in the automation, commissioning, calibration, balancing, design, layout, construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of University owned mechanical systems and their components.

This position is expected to respond to and/or supervise breakdown repair, as well as develop plans to ensure timely execution of emergency repairs. The Controls Supervisor is involved in performing technical and journeyperson level control duties, critical to the operation and maintenance of all University HVAC systems. This position requires the incumbent to monitor safety, set priorities, evaluate results and coordinate the work of others in the trade, which involves scheduling, supervision and inspection/evaluation of work as a first-line supervisor. This position will also be required to collaborate with internal university clients to provide strong customer satisfaction while responding to campus and community needs and expectations. As a working supervisor, performs all functions of a journeyperson (in their relevant trade), and other duties as required.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Supervise, plan, and coordinate activities of the Controls Technician in the automation, calibration dynamic commissioning, balancing, design, layout, fabrication, construction, installation, repair, maintenance of building control components and systems;
- Assign tasks, perform inspection of work in progress and completed work; implement necessary changes as required;
- Provide technical direction and guidance to assigned staff as required;
- Develop and maintain work schedules for maintenance, repair and renovation work;
- Source and order services or materials and equipment for current or future projects;
- Assist the Manager with budget matters by performing research and providing input for selecting and prioritizing projects;
- The Controls Supervisor promotes upgrades to mechanical systems and develops strategies regarding preventative maintenance to maximize life cycle and performance of equipment;
- Estimate labour and material costs, maintain records, requisition materials, supplies and equipment;
- Maintain records, monthly reports, daily time sheets and other logs or reports as needed by the department;
- Ensure proper safety practices and procedures are followed; adhere to necessary procedures that would ensure conformity with OH&S, blueprint specifications, National and Local Building Codes and requirements of other specialized codes and regulating agencies (ASHRAE);
- Ensure the equipment and tools are maintained in good working order;
- Resolve on-the-job problems as they occur;
- May be required or as requested to perform any duties associated with the Mechanical Trades;
- Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of new advancements and techniques and/or technologies of the controls industry;
- Maintain and update trade and University required certification and confirming all staff have appropriate training for given tasks;
- Coordinate with all other Trade Supervisors the requirements needed to accomplish maintenance, repair, projects and commissioning record undertakings;
- Supervise shop areas, shop equipment, and trucks equipped for maintenance work; and,
- Perform other related duties as required.
