Métis Crossing is Alberta’s first major Métis destination where we share and celebrate the Métis culture with all people With their unique designs that combine both traditional and contemporary Métis craftmanship, The Lodge and the Gathering Centre at Métis Crossing are special blends of comfort, culture, and Métis history. Directly adjacent to the Cultural Gathering Centre, our 40-room boutique Lodge offers scenic views overlooking the majestic North Saskatchewan River, the very route used by our Métis ancestors as they gathered here to trade. The Cultural Gathering Centre is the base for all our cultural and educational programs. The Lodge offers a Bistro for coffee and express breakfast, as well as a Lounge for cocktails and light snacks. Together they are an ideal location for corporate and government retreats as well as family gatherings.

**The Opportunity**

Métis Crossing seeks aspiring Culinary Experience Team Members for the position of _Lead_ _Events Associate_. The successful applicant will play an integral role in supporting the culinary vision at Métis Crossing including the serving of indigenous cuisine and supporting special events. Working with the direct supervisor, this role will bring concepts such as _Forest & Farm to Table_ to life

**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist in leading a team in day-to-day duties, tasks, and events
- Prepare, organize, and plan event orders for all events, making sure the team is informed of all activities and requirements
- Prepare task lists for front-line staff to complete
- Support all vendor orders for Front-of-House operations
- Execute all opening and closing procedures, including end-of-day cash-out, preparing for upcoming events in advance, and giving proper direction to the front-line team
- Protect the establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies
- Stay updated on current menu choices, specialties, and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items, etc.
- Serve orders by picking up and delivering patrons' choices from the Bistro, bar, and kitchen, delivering accompaniments and condiments from service bars
- Respond to additional patron requirements by inquiring about needs and observing the dining process
- Be able to appropriately deal with difficult customers or situations
- Properly open and pour wine and other beverages at the tableside
- Obtain revenues by totaling charges; issuing bill, accepting payment, delivering bill and payment to host, returning change or credit card and signature slip to patrons
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, providing break coverage, and filling in for absent staff as needed
- Assist with special events and day-to-day operations, this includes room setup of all events
- Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently
- Promptly address customer service issues and refer customers to management when necessary
- Always adhere to WHMIS

**Skills & Competencies**
- Strong oral communication and writing skills
- 3-5 years’ experience in either Hospitality, Tourism, or a leading role
- Experience working with diverse audiences of varying cultural backgrounds and ages
- Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedule and assignments
- Attention to detail
- Able to work independently and with others in a team, as well as take direction from others
- Ability to work in a noisy, fast-paced, multitasking environment
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in a physically demanding area, including standing for the duration of shifts

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Basic understanding of food service requirements
- Previous serving experience required
- Knowledge and adherence to safe and sanitary food handling procedures
- Knowledge of Alberta's history and cultural diversity
- Knowledge of Alberta Métis

**Other Requirements**
- Have reliable transportation and a Class 5 Drivers License
- Availability to work a mixed schedule of days, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to work at Métis Crossing in Smoky Lake
- Clear Criminal Record Check required

**Employment Details**

Schedule will include weekdays, weekends, and holidays
