As the Locomotive Metier Lead, you are a member of the Services Engineering NAM management team, serving as a trusted partner to your project peers and reporting directly to the Services Engineering Director NAM. You will be responsible for working on projects for all types of locomotives, including diesel electric, electric, hybrid and others for both freight and passenger markets. As such, you must be knowledgeable in all areas of locomotives, relating to all units in use currently as well as emerging trends and technologies.

You provide guiding knowledge and insight for both current and future projects. You are not just a technical expert, you also coordinate the technical aspect of bids, provide insight on other areas of technological development at Alstom, and coordinate work with design authorities and key suppliers.

Your responsibilities include:

- Coordinating and leading technical response for locomotive bids
- Serving as Chief Architect of Locomotive Solutions
- Collaborating with Product Lines and approving design solutions
- Directing Engineering and Industrial organizations concerning locomotive architecture, regulations, use and customer expectations
- Creating requirements for engineering including:

- Performance requirements
- Regulatory compliance
- Customer-specific requirements
- Cost/maintenance requirements
- Identifying and anticipating risks and proposing proactive mitigation plans for bids
- Working with other Alstom sites globally to utilize available expertise to create the best solutions for customers’ needs
- Supporting Sales with customer technical presentations and customer interaction
- Developing in-depth knowledge of the Alstom product portfolio, particularly locomotives, energy storage, and traction systems

**What do I need to qualify for this job?**

In this role, you are expected to build effective working relationships across both the Alstom network and NAM Services team to create a network to be able to provide guidance and knowledge on all locomotive aspects. In addition to creating this network, you will be expected to bring your own extensive knowledge to the organization, being recognized as a technical expert on locomotives. Your knowledge should include technical knowledge, such as design and performance information, as well as practical knowledge, including the normal usage and operations of locomotives in the passenger and freight world.

As you will be expected to lead engineering efforts on creating overall locomotive architecture and design, strong leadership skills will be required. You will be required to lead these efforts, working with non-direct reports, so the ability to motivate and influence others is critical.

As this is a relatively new role in Alstom Services’ engineering organization, you will need to have a strong drive to set and occupy the responsibilities of this role. As Alstom continues to expand into the locomotive market in NAM, for both freight and passenger locomotives, this will be a critical role in the organization.
