Veteran Coordinators use lived experience of recovery from addiction and/or mental health, plus skills learned in formal training, to provide varied types of support, workshops and advocacy to veterans in the community requiring the same type of healing. A Veteran Coordinator is an ongoing resource providing support to Veterans requiring this type of support that are also clients of Canada House, or Veteran friends of Canada House.

In collaboration with the clinic team, the Veteran Coordinator uses empowerment and recovery-oriented approaches with individuals and groups to help combat stigma, raise self-esteem, improve self-concept, offer mentorship and recovery support; advocate for client needs, and instill genuine hope by tactically sharing your recovery story.

Workshops are conducted in a comfortable and sensitive atmosphere that encourages both attendance, participation and healthy discussion. These workshops are to be guided towards facets of innovative support such as: music therapy, art therapy, craft making, peer support groups, excursions, and other group activities. The goal of the workshops is to provide an atmosphere for learning, discussion, and sharing of topics, which supports the positive health of peers.

**Primary Objectives of Position**:
**Duties include**:

- Offering socialization and support to participants; preparing and serving coffee, light meals, and/or snacks;
- Welcoming new participants of hosted activities/events;
- Facilitating support groups, activities/events. Facilitation of events/activities expectations will never go beyond the Coordinator’s capabilities.
- Applicant must have reliable transportation and/or be able to proficiently use public transportation.

- Communicate to veteran community how medical cannabis is helping Veterans, and how Canada House is a quality medical cannabis clinic with real education and choice specializing in helping Veterans
- Assist Veterans in discussion about resources, paperwork or other items related to help improve their quality of life. Have a familiar grasp on Canada House’s offerings to know where we can help, connecting the Veteran with the right channels to access more support.
- Identifying to Canada House any areas of support that are required to Veterans that we need to improve on, or start offering.
- Commit to training as required and able.
- Complete reports on group attendance, individual contacts and expenses in a timely manner
- Communicate feedback of conducted events/activities and any other relevant feedback that would help Canada House build better offerings to all veterans.
- Organize training venues, logistics and accommodations according to planned event or activity, hosting one event biweekly.
- Encourage social interaction within the community.
- Attend monthly veteran coordinator group meetings, offer ideas.

**Required Competencies**: Knowledge on veteran services and veterans, learning orientation, dependable, proficient problem solver, interpersonal communication proficiency, teamwork orientation, high degree of ethics, and basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word & Excel), planning and scheduling, comfortable with public speaking, submitting purchase requests and preparing materials required for workshop. Most importantly, positive attitude towards helping Veterans improve their lives.
- **Experience**_: Experience in training and public speaking for a diverse audience would be considered an asset but not required. Individuals who have experienced a process of recovery themselves and obtain peer support related training to assist others with mental health challenges to identify and achieve life goals as part of their own recovery is considered an asset.

**Qualifications**:

- An Honorable Discharge from the Canadian Forces Armed Forces.
- Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 3 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check.
- Previous experience participating in and facilitating a self-help group, or similar experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of community services for Veterans and their families.
- Commitment to learning and growing as a provider of peer sup
