Our Disability Case Managers can make a difference in our customers’ lives and are responsible for managing disability claims to resolution. This includes determining if the plan members are eligible for disability benefits through to implementing the right interventions to support recovery and return to work for approved claims.
Reporting to the Manager, Group Disability, you will:
- Work collaboratively and build strong relationships with plan members, plan sponsors, lawyers, health care practitioners and other stakeholders to address workplace absence issues, obtain information, provide claim status, create action plans and provide verbal and written decisions while maintaining confidentiality and privacy
- Engage plan members through open and respectful communication to understand the medical, social and personal dimensions of their workplace absence
- Assess claims for benefit entitlement by reviewing contractual, medical, functional and occupational information
- Develop and maintain outcome-focused case management plans to help plan members return to work
- Conduct telephone interviews to obtain information to ensure complete understanding of the absence and types of support required to assist with return-to-work planning
- Identify and assess medical and non-medical influencing factors pre and post disability, functional capability, restrictions and limitations to better understand what support is needed to get plan members back to work
- Prioritize work items to meet client service standards and Sun Life best practice guidelines
- Contribute to a dynamic work environment by identifying opportunities to improve processes and customer service delivery

- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to follow-up on several files at the same time
- Strong cross-functional team skills with the ability to work independently
- Previous disability management experience, assessing disability claims is an asset
- Previous knowledge of disability products is an asset
