**Job Title**: Occupational Health & Safety Specialist

**Reports to**: Production Manager

**Date**: June 2023

**Position Overview**:
**Major Responsibilities**:

- Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of the facility and office space, make recommendations and execute action plan for improvements
- Leading and participating in manufacturing workplace inspections to ensure that equipment, materials and production processes do not pose a safety or health hazard;
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure full compliance with Ministry of Labor, WSIB and other related entities.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root cause and recommend corrective actions, execute training and delivery to prevent further incidents.
- Provide training to employees on health and safety topics. Co-Chair and participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings bot in Tapscott and Yonge & Eglinton Committees. Maintain and keep current all safety training and policies.
- Liaise with building management to closely collaborate on all Occupational, Health and Safety topics for all employees.
- Developing and implementing health and safety programs, including standard operating procedures.
- Training new hires and all employees on health and safety policies and procedures; including providing Plan Tours and orientation to new or existing employees as part of a comprehensive Health & Safety Training Program
- Monitoring safety behaviors are exhibited, recommend corrective actions, improved process that supports a strong Safety Culture. Ability to generate and maintain Safety KPI’s.
- Be the lead point for Health crisis and actions needed in case of medical and health emergencies locally and globally.
- Follow through actions for compliance; complying with mandatory regulations in Ontario
- Other duties as instructed.

**Basic Qualifications**
- Post Secondary education; a bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field;
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in H&S in a manufacturing and office environment in Ontario.
- Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC); or Certified Safety Auditor, and knowledge of federal, provincial and territorial legislation is an asset.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety management systems; knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures.
- Knowledge of emergency response planning.
- Strong Communication skills, including policy writing and facilitation skills for group sessions.
- Strong orientation to detail
- Critical and analytical thinking to conduct investigations and address root cause problems.
- Agile learner, passion for communication and change management techniques.
