**Position Summary**

The Real Estate Law Clerk is a legal specialist whose role is to assist in-house counsel in closing all mortgage loans by preparing legal documents, maintaining files, and attending to closings and registrations. Working in a team environment, this position will be responsible for handling legal and administrative work related to real estate transactions and matters.

**List of Main Responsibilities**
- Independently manage real estate transactions, including drafting all mortgage documents, correspondences with solicitors for the lenders and borrowers.
- Prepare and process private mortgage transactions from start to finish using Unity and Teraview.
- Draft and revise correspondence.
- Prepare partial and/or complete discharges of security as registered against title.
- Complete title searches and notify counsel of any discrepancies or other issues with the title.
- Communicate with title insurers and review and comment on draft policies.
- Prepare reporting letters/accounts to clients and lenders promptly following the completion of files.
- Review title instruments, mortgage commitments and agreements of purchase and sale.
- Manage and review important documents for real estate transactions and closings, such as tax certificates and confirmation of insurance.
- Perform other administrative and related duties as assigned.

**List of Key Qualifications**
- Minimum 5+ years residential real estate experience, including private mortgages
- Strong understanding of real estate law and ability to handle a file from start to finish
- Proficiency with Conveyancer, Unity and Teraview
- Top notch organizational skills and intense attention to detail
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Law Clerk or Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate is an asset
- The ability to work independently on all matters involving the preparation of standard and legal documents pertaining to real estate transactions.
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
- Positive and engaging individual who is relationship-driven and can orientate and set the energy of the team.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple files and short deadlines.
- Ability to efficiently manage large volumes of electronic documents.
- Excellent basic math skills.
- Knowledge of private lending, Mortgage Investment Corporations, mortgage/investment payments.

This position does not have to deal with the public, only closing in-house transactions and dealing with borrower’s solicitor.
