Construction Labourer, Grade/layout

Fowler Construction is actively seeking a Grade/Layout Construction Labourer for the summer season to assist in shooting grade and perform tasks involving physical labour at construction sites in the Minden area. Responsibilities will include cleaning and preparing worksites, setting braces to support the sides of excavations, assisting in shooting grade, shoveling, raking, removing waste materials, performing traffic control, and any other labour related function necessary for the continuation and completion of the job at hand.

**Key Duties**:

- Cleaning and performing preparation of worksites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Raising and lowering the receiver on the grade rod to assist in shooting grade.
- Working on an earthworks crew alongside our machine operators and assisting in excavation, fine grading by hand, compaction, sorting and separating of materials etc.
- Cleaning trenches, while keeping a safe work area at all times.
- Operating equipment as required after receiving training on safe operation of any equipment used.
- Signaling equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Cleaning and maintaining any equipment or tools you may use.
- Participating in mandatory traffic control training, control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones as required.
- Digging ditches or trenches, backfilling excavations, compacting, and leveling earth to grade specifications, using appropriate tools.
- Shoveling and raking as required.
- Erecting and disassembling scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures
- Under supervision, install sewer, water, and storm drainpipes, using pipe-laying machinery and laser guidance equipment.
- Loading and unloading materials, machinery, and tools, and distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
- Assisting co-workers at other job sites when required.
- Regularly attending safety tailgate meetings.
- All other duties as assigned.

**Requirements/Qualifications**:

- Experience working in construction is considered an asset, but applicants with no experience who are hardworking, willing to learn and committed to working in the trade will also be considered.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work with a team.
- Must be able to stand, lift 50 lbs., carry, bend, and reach.
- Punctual and available to work 50-60 hours per week.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

**Work Conditions**:

- Travel to various sites will be required.
- Outdoor work environment in various weather conditions.
- Weekend work may be required.

Contract length: 2 months

**Salary**: $24.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 12 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Minden, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- construction: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Class G Licence (required)
