The Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association (NSNWA) has been in existence since 1972. The NSNWA is a non-profit organization representing approximately 8,000 women in Nova Scotia. The NSNWA was formed to address the social, political, emotional, health concerns and aspirations of Mi’kmaq women. The NSNWA is growing quickly and is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of a _**Child and Youth Care Worker at our Jane Paul Centre.**_

The Child and Youth Care Worker will be responsible for the Child Care area that the clients of the Jane Paul Centre (JPC) will utilize during workshops and other activities. They will ensure a clean, safe environment for the child, as well as plan programs and activities that are age appropriate and including cultural teachings. The Child and Youth Care Worker will provide hands-on direct assistance and education to families and children who are using the JPC for Supervised Visitation services. This may include scheduling, transportation, face-to-face supervision, fully supervised or semi supervised visits at established at the JPC.

Reporting to the Director, Jane Paul Centre the Child and Youth Care Worker will:

- Ensures a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for children and youth providing age-appropriate activities
- Designs, implements, and evaluates youth-centered programs and activities, including cultural teachings
- Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Diligent monitoring of all children during all times
- Assisting in ongoing upkeep, maintenance, and general appearance of physical facilities, including sanitizing high touch surfaces
- Create resources regarding indigenous parenting
- Perform significant lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work or Early Childhood Education and 2 years experience
- Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience working with Indigenous children and youth will be considered
- Experience or knowledge of Indigenous people, organizations, and communities in Nova Scotia
- Knowledge and skills in the delivery of group programs and activities
- Excellent organizational, oral/verbal/written communication skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality
- Proven ability to be a team player with experience working with others to develop a timeline, create schedules, and oversee progress to make sure goals are met on time
- Pass a vulnerable person’s records check, a criminal record check, and a child abuse registry check
- High computer literacy skills including experience working with word, excel and video communications such as zoom etc.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and the ability to travel throughout the province including overnight stays.
- CPR First Aid
- Preference will be given to a Mi’kmaq speaking woman.

**Salary**: $40,000.00-$45,000.00 per year
