This is a Part time position with 0.2 FTE

**Responsibilities**:

- In concert with other staff responsible for the care/service of clients throughout the Care Centre, the Dietitian will ensure that clients are provided with appropriate nutrition, in accordance with progressive nutritional practices.
- The Dietitian will achieve this by a leadership role that helps clients maximize their independence and control/choice.
- Hours of work must be flexible, based on client needs.
- Any nutrition services provided by the Clinical Dietitian must be within the Scope of Practice laid out by the College of Dietitians of Alberta, and are also in accordance with legislations, regulations, policies, standards and guidelines set by various external and internal governing bodies.
- Act as an advocate for residents.
- Demonstrate a collaborative, interdisciplinary team approach to delivery of nutritional services.
- Communicate with others in an approachable, open and honest manner.
- Demonstrate excellent teaching skills when educating residents, family members, care team members or volunteers.
- Understanding of MDS and Point Click Care

**Essential Functions**:

- Ability to read and write English in order to follow and give oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to complete required paperwork and filing with high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to observe resident's behavior and communicate observations in a professional and intelligent manner.
- Must be able to clearly explain to potential residents, families and employees the policies and procedures of the facility.
- After receiving the appropriate training, must be able to operate standard business equipment such as computers, copiers and scanners.

**Nutritional Services**:

- Perform nutrition assessments of residents at admission and quarterly reviews, and recording same through the resident chart and MDS.
- Monitor resident’s nutrition status, and intervene as needed.
- Order the appropriate feeding formula and regimen for those on alternative modes of feeding, such as resident on tube feeding, resident on transition from tube feeding to oral feeding, etc.
- Make necessary recommendations to the care team regarding the appropriate medical nutrition therapies for residents.
- Establish nutrition care plans based on assessments and inputs from the care team.
- Review and revise nutrition care plans, quarterly or as needed.
- Co-ordinate Support Service, Nursing, resident, family and volunteer to implement appropriate dietetic service based on assessments, relevant data, preferences, meal time observations, medical nutrition therapies, nutrition and nursing care plans, etc.
- Provide nutrition related consultations to departments, staff, residents and clients, such as diet precautions for certain medical tests, swallowing assessments etc.
- Provide nutrition education to staff, residents, volunteers and clients, as needed.
- Review the nutritional aspects of the Centre’s food service, as needed.
- Provide insights and report on residents’ nutrition status at scheduled resident centered conferences

**Evaluation**:

- Assess complex residents as required.
- Establish goals/interventions for individual residents as required.
- Monitor success of interventions/programs/education (look for positive indicators/modify as required).
- Provide appropriate education to residents, staff, families and volunteers.

**Other**:

- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with other staff.
- Stay current/increase professional skills in clinical nutrition and Geriatrics.
