**The School**

Meadowridge School is an independent, co-educational, secular day school offering an IB education to over 670 students ages 4 to 17 (JK to 12). The school campus is located on a 27-acre, forested parcel of land on the outskirts of Maple Ridge, BC. Our campus and facilities have been carefully designed to align with our connection and appreciation of the natural world. Our physical spaces reflect the importance of movement, play and interaction with the outdoors. Exterior doors from classrooms provide quick access to natural spaces, including a community garden, green houses, a forest with a trail network, and a newly developed campground area. Our play spaces are vast and take into consideration the developmental needs of children.

Meadowridge is an accredited, IB continuum world school with a well-established Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). Our teaching faculty are highly trained IB educators, with a growing number of IB Workshop Academy leaders on staff. The IB Learner Profile provides the foundation for character development at our school, while the IB Approaches to Teaching allow for continued pedagogical growth and reflection of our teachers.

In addition to being an IB world school, we are also accredited by the Canadian Accreditation of Independent Schools (CAIS), and the British Columbia Ministry of Education. These organizations compliment the global perspective that is inherent in the IB program, while also helping to ensure we maintain a current and relevant world-class educational experience.

**Position Summary**

Our new High School Principal’s key areas of accountability and responsibility are for the leadership and day to day operations of the High School program in grades 9-12, and to assist the Assistant Head of School and Deputy Head of School to ensure the smooth running of the High School. The High School Principal may assume the duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Head of School in their absence, when requested.

**Qualifications and Experience**

The High School Principal should have a varied educational background with some administrative experience and should have taught in either the elementary or secondary school system to appreciate the duties that teachers are being asked to perform. The High School Principal must be able to deal well with members of the community including students, teachers, parents, and administrators. The High School Principal must be well organized and able to problem solve. Being patient and possessing a sense of humor are definite assets.

- An understanding and experience in pedagogy and teaching and learning
- A history of providing a visible presence on campus, and the willingness, energy, and natural inclination to be an active role model for students
- A belief in, and commitment to, the ideals of independent education
- A high level of personal strength, stamina, and energy
- Possess the ability to identify trends and anticipate developments in our rapidly changing society, and then marry a vision with pedagogical delivery to ensure that a Meadowridge education is preparing its students well
- Demonstrated ability to embrace and communicate change, and the courage, judgment, and wisdom to make important decisions when they have to be made
- Connect easily with others, balances firmness and fairness in problem resolution, and demonstrates an active interest in students’ development as individuals in a community
- Be an active listener, with superior public-speaking and communications skills
- Benchmarks and builds a distinctive and differentiated academic program by examination of the current academic offering and continually seek new approaches to innovative learning and program delivery
- Has a passion for education, and act as a mentor for teachers
- Track record of success in administration in a complex and sophisticated independent school
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a classroom teacher
- Master’s degree in leadership administration is an asset
- Ability to deal with sensitive issues and concerns with faculty, students, and parents
