**Clinical Social Work Specialist, Teaching and Consultation Clinic**

The Clinical Social Work Specialist is designated as the clinical expert in the specialized area of psychotherapy for children, youth and family who are experiencing psychiatric symptoms, and is responsible for program development, teaching and research, including program development and coordination, and academic/community capacity development initiatives.
**What you’ll do**

- Provide training for subspecialty child psychiatry residents and core psychiatry residents in interpersonal psychotherapies and family therapy and evaluates their proficiency in the specialty according to the criteria established by the residency training program at University of British Columbia.
- Provide formal consultation and clinical advice to Social Workers as well as psychiatrists, residents, other trainees and staff in designated evidence based psychotherapies to ensure integration and adherence to the treatment model in the outpatient mental health program including interpersonal psychotherapy, family assessment and therapy and integrated family therapy and play therapy for children, adolescents and their families with diagnosed psychiatric disorder.
- Provide formal opportunity to evaluate the quality of the clinical training, consultation and supervision.
- Provide leadership and support to Social Workers as well as psychiatrists, residents and other trainee and staff for capacity building activities such as developing and implementing curriculum and training using evidence based training methods.
- Provide consultation, teaching and education based on clinical expertise to individuals outside of BC Mental Health and Addictions including core psychiatry residency training programs located at other health authority sites, masters level social work trainees, Social Workers, community Child and Youth Mental Health in BC as well as other child and adolescent psychiatric programs via Telehealth.
- Present locally, provincially, nationally and internationally at conferences, as well as providing teaching at C & W for interdisciplinary audiences
- Sit as a member of the subspecialty Child Psychiatry Program. Develops curriculum for interpersonal psychotherapy, family assessment and family therapy and integrated family therapy and play therapy for children, adolescents and their families with diagnosed psychiatric disorder
**What you bring**
- Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of Social Work.
- Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers. Meets criteria for a clinical appointment in the Facility of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia.
- Completion of a specialized post Master's supervised training program in family therapy at a recognized family therapy training program. Completion of a specialized post Master's supervised training program in interpersonal psychotherapy or dialectical behavioral therapy in a recognized program. Formal training in delivering education and curriculum in teaching family and interpersonal or dialectical behavioural therapy.
- Two (2) years of experience providing individual and family therapy to children, adolescents and their families with diagnosed psychiatric disorder. One (1) year of experience delivering workshops, lectures and presentations to wide variety of health care professionals.
- Completion of a recognized leadership program plus two (2) years’ recent experience working in a formalized leadership role.
You also have:
- Comprehensive knowledge of social work theory, family therapy theory and practice.
- Comprehensive knowledge of issues related Psychiatric disorders in children and youth and the psychosocial impact for patients and families.
- Knowledge of DSM IV diagnostic criteria for children and youth mental health diagnoses.
- Knowledge of child and youth mental health community resources and programs around the province and other regions of Canada.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation affecting children and families in mental health including: Mental Health Act, Infants Consent Act, Freedom of Privacy and Information, and Child and Community Services Act. Knowledge of child protection risk factors and legal issues relevant to child protection reporting.
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant local community agencies including MCFD, and charitable organizations.
- Knowledge in telehealth technology at an advanced level to utilize it as a medium in treatment to provide family therapy and groups via this technology as well as education.
