CBC is looking for an experienced journalist and dynamic on-air presenter to be CBC Manitoba’s television and video host for the next 12 months.

As the Host, you will be an active journalist and a vital contributor to our daytime video journalism as well as hosting CBC News at 6pm.

You are passionate about Manitoba, its diverse people and perspectives, and have a strong desire to help Manitobans make sense of their world. You are an insatiably curious journalist with a knack for drawing information and accountability out of the people you interview.

A forward-thinking self-starter, you thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of a multi-platform newsroom.

You are comfortable going on the air live at any time, reacting to breaking news and changing events, updating and remaking content as needed.

You understand how a wide range of video storytelling formats is key to providing the audience with the diversity of news content they are looking for. You are enthusiastic about experimenting with video formats and aren’t afraid to take risks.

You have an eclectic range of interests - from politics to social issues to business, pop culture, science and environment and everything in between.

You understand the diverse and changing population of Manitoba and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. You appreciate the range of perspectives that people hold and believe in the importance of giving voice to those perspectives.

You will play a key role in helping us connect with and grow new audiences through public events and community engagement.

You demonstrate and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture.

You will uphold all CBC journalistic standards and ensure that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, impartial, and told with integrity.

This one-year contract position requires full-time on site presence.

Key Tasks:
- Performing a variety of tasks associated with the gathering, preparation and on-air presentation of program material on video platforms.- Gathering content or being live from the field.- Conceiving of original stories and concepts and working collaboratively to produce them.- Building relationships with a diverse cross-section of the community to enhance our understanding of the region and to increase the range of voices and perspectives.- Participating in public events representing CBC.- Excellent reporting, interviewing and writing skills.- Demonstrated ability to provide live on-air reports, interviews and analysis of complex events including breaking news as it occurs.- An engaging on-air presence, strong presentation style and ease with live work. Ability to interact extemporaneously with program participants such as guests and colleagues.- Superior knowledge of broadcast and digital programming.- Excellent understanding of CBC, journalistic and programming policies, standards and practices.- Ability to generate original story ideas and creative treatments.- the ability to evaluate and analyze a broad range of issues, and to tell those stories with clarity and in a manner that relates the stories to the people affected by them.- Demonstrably engaged, interested and immersed in a wide range of experiences that make up Manitoba.- Proven understanding of the stories of underrepresented communities and how to tell them.- Able to present material with credibility and authority in a range of situations including live events and breaking news.- Creativity in approaching news story formats.- Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively, with producers and colleagues, in story development and vetting in presenting the news.- Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines.- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including weekends, community outreach and overtime.- A university degree or equivalent is preferred.- 5 years of comparable and relevant market experience preferred.
