We are currently seeking a **GIS and Database Specialist** to join our operations in a **permanent**, **full-time** position.

This position is to provide support for the various databases of the Engineering Department.
- Duties & Responsibilities
- Setting up new databases in Postgres using PostGIS on Azure;
- Creating and editing tables;
- Maintenance of databases;
- Database normalization;
- Assigning users and permissions for the databases;
- Using SQL and PL/PGSQL
- Creating functions for generating reports and automating repetitive tasks
- Running on the fly queries for reports on an as needed basis
- Doing mass data updates
- Finding and solving issues and inconsistencies with the data;
- Setting up project files in QGIS by:

- Assigning symbology and labeling rules to layers
- Creation of mapping templates with automation aspects added
- Troubleshooting issues with the software;
- Working with data in multiple projections;
- Working with spatial data in AutoCAD;
- Training of new staff and continual training and support of QGIS for staff;
- Documentation of GIS practices for internal use.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Detailed knowledge of the following programs:

- QGIS
- PostgreSQL with PostGIS extension
- Knowledge of Python and AutoCAD is considered an asset;
- Great computer skills and ability to learn new software with ease;
- Detail-oriented with good organizational and time-management skills;
- Must be able to prioritize as needed, in a deadline-driven environment;
- Capability to accommodate the different telecommunications standards established for each client;
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings;
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
- General understanding of construction documents, drawings, and specification;
- Knowledge of current construction practices is considered an asset;
- Highly analytical and proven problem-solving abilities.
- Additional Requirements
- Experience Required
- Degree or Diploma in GIS/Database Management is required.
- 1 - 3 years experience in a GIS position is required.
