**A Day in the Life **
Reporting to the Head, Collections Services, the Metadata Specialist is responsible for the creation, maintenance and integrity of metadata for all Library materials, including Archives & Special Collections, and University departmental collections. The Metadata Specialist will also create policies and procedures in accordance with metadata standards of practice for the library catalogue.

**As the Metadata Specialist, you will**:

- Create and maintain catalogue records for print books, print journals, e-books, e-journals, government documents, rare and archival materials, audiovisual media, and other materials for the library collection through original or derived cataloguing;
- Import/download and edit batch bibliographic records for electronic resources and maintain existing electronic collections to meet local metadata standards;
- Identify problems and deficiencies with bibliographic records based on library standards, local guidelines, and consortia practices;
- Prepare statistical reports required by librarians and administration for annual reports, weeding projects and other projects;
- Serve as a resource expert for cataloguing within Collections Services and Archives & Special Collections;
- Provide training of library staff and co-op students on cataloguing and weeding projects;
- Develop procedures independently and collaboratively for metadata creation for all materials (print and non-print) that the library collects;
- Ensure that procedures promote discoverability of library resources through the library’s academic search tool;
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with access to electronic resources.

**What you need to Succeed**
- Bachelor degree in a relevant field;
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience with cataloguing and metadata in an academic library, with knowledge in one of the following areas: electronic resource management, government documents, or archival and special collections;
- Knowledge of cataloguing in an academic library environment with understanding of workflows and processes;
- Knowledge of descriptive cataloguing rules, both AACR2 and RDA, and how the two systems coexist in a library system;
- Knowledge of interactions between key systems, specifically how standard metadata formats interact with a variety of library systems;
- Knowledge of how cataloguing and metadata workflows relate to other aspects of library work;
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, and as a member of a team;
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills;
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
- Strong time management skills and ability to organize work and establish priorities;
- Ability to keep pace with a changing environment.

**Preferred or Asset Skills **
- Library Technician Diploma;
- Familiarity or experience with resolving problematic, legacy and antiquated language in library catalogues;
- Awareness of inclusion and diversity initiatives related to metadata in library catalogues.

**Salary and Benefit Information**
- Job Grade K, Salary Scale: $57,400-$98,400*;
- Target Hiring Range: $57,400-$73,000;
- This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
