Eastward Energy seeks a well-rounded individual to join their team as an **Assistant** **Controller**. Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is an integral part of a small finance team providing oversight and review of day-to-day finance operations and month-end reporting. The Assistant Controller will review accounts receivable/payable and general journal entries, prepare month-end entries, and coordinate the preparation of supporting documents for the monthly financial statements. The Assistant Controller liaises with various stakeholders, including other Finance team members, the Eastward Energy senior management team, the Tri-Summit Utilities financial reporting team and internal and external auditors. Other responsibilities include:

- Provide assistance in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (currently US GAAP) producing clear documentation that supports reporting and audit needs.
- Oversee accounts receivable and payable processes, including reviewing entries and processing regular payments to vendors.
- Oversee the filing of HST. “Your Energy Rebates” and municipal property taxes.
- Ensure monthly lead sheets are prepared with support and agree to the financial statements.
- Assist in the coordination and data collection for internal and external auditors.
- Prepare regulatory reports, complete Canadian Gas Association surveys, and provide other regulatory support where required.
- Support for Eastward Energy’s financial reporting system (JDE), including an in-depth understanding of all modules.
- Build strong working relationships with stakeholders internally and externally.
- A university degree in Business Administration or Commerce or a combination of education, training, and experience is deemed to be equivalent.
- Professional Accountant designation or past relevant experience, with a minimum of three to five years of accounting and financial management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with accounts receivable/payable and general journal entries within financial reporting systems.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Strong/advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to roll up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on capacity.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines with mínimal supervision and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and with other collaboratively.
