Research Assistant, Microbiology Immunology

**Position Overview**
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
The Snyder Translational Laboratory in Critical Care Medicine and the research lab of the Principal Investigator are dynamic, established laboratories, located in the Health Research and Innovation Center at the University of Calgary. We focus our work on bridging clinical and basic science through exciting state of the art projects.
**Position Description**
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Accurately performing technical assays and timely troubleshooting
- Perform biochemical assays and optimize where required
- Assist with ordering supplies and general inventory control
- Experimental sample processing and analyses
- Ensure all work with animals follows the highest standard of animal care
- Assist with standard animal care activities which may include: watering, feeding of animals and monitoring and assessing general animal health
- Record keeping of the experiments and laboratory tasks performed
- Assist with developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures as required
- Assist with data analysis and interpretation, laboratory experiments and other research for use in scholarly publications
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Technical experience in basic molecular biology, and basic immunology techniques such as ELISA and flow cytometry
- Experience in basic animal care and simple animal surgeries is essential
- Good problem solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be an asset
- Detail oriented and excellent manual dexterity
- Ability to perform detailed design, documentation, and implementation of moderately complex technological systems
- Experience working with BSL2 pathogens and infection models
- Experience with intravital imaging systems is desirable
- Experience with various biological samples (eg. blood, tissues, urine, etc)
- Good communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
- WHIMS Certification
