Job Summary
Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Research Coordinators, the Research Assistant will assist with the organization and management of research tasks for two multicentre clinical trials of integrating physiotherapists in primary care settings for the treatment of low back pain (LBP) and hip/knee pain. The incumbent will be responsible for managing routine logístical aspects of an on-going study, including assisting in the recruitment and screening of prospective participants, conducting baseline and follow-up data collection, updating study documentation, conducting simple data checks and cleaning, collecting health information from electronic medical records, and supporting knowledge translation efforts. The Research Assistant will also attend team meetings as required.

The schedule for this position may require the incumbent to travel between participating clinical sites, according to the project needs.
**Job Description**:
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Meet with prospective participants at the clinical partner sites to provide a detailed description of the study and obtain informed consent to participate.
- Complete baseline assessments with participants once consent is obtained, using an online data collection program (REDCap).
- Act as a contact and representative for the study team at clinical sites and respond to queries and problems related to the study from both participants and clinic staff.
- Conduct follow-up data collection with participants, either electronically, by telephone or in person, as per the participant’s preference. Follow-up assessments to be completed at the 6-week, 12-week, 6-month, 9-month and 12-month time points.
- Assist with the routine project activities, ensuring project deadlines are met, and providing guidance and support to the project team.
- Use ethics-approved protocols to identify and recruit study participants.
- Perform regular timely checks for data completion as electronic questionnaires are received.
- Use a communication and tracking log to monitor follow-up assessment completion rates, provide regular updates to the study coordinators and primary investigator, and attend study team meetings as required.
- Assist clinical site administrative staff with scheduling and screening issues as required.
- Maintain participant confidentiality by properly securing all study documents and keeping participant names or other identifiable information separate from study ID numbers at all times.
- Collect pertinent health information from electronic medical records and enter into a secure database.
- Perform general administrative duties, such as monitoring the need for or ordering supplies, liaising with staff at clinical sites and communicating with research team members. Undertake additional duties as assigned in support of the project.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post-secondary education in a health or research related field and/or research-based Master’s degree are both assets.
- Experience working in randomized controlled trials, multi-side research, and/or a multidisciplinary research team are considered assets.
- Experience working with people with chronic health conditions is an asset.
- Previous experience with extracting data from electronic medical records and/or using online data management platforms are assets.
- Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence or equivalent.
- Satisfactory police record check (CPIC).

**SPECIAL SKILLS**:

- Interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work with people from a variety of settings and backgrounds, particularly people with chronic health conditions and their families.
- Excellent computer skills and experience with computer software programs for database management, data collection, and reporting.
- Excellent organizational abilities.

**DECISION MAKING**:

- Comfortable making clinical judgements in a fast-paced environment.
- Decide on best alternatives or a range of solutions to a given problem; identify potential risks and benefits of each.
- Prioritize work and time based on multiple demands.
