This position reports to the Project Manager within the Indigenous Peoples’ Health Research Centre (IPHRC) at the First Nations University of Canada in close collaboration with the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority. From IPHRC, the Community Health Navigator will work with a research project team and community partners to ensure that the mandate within the research project is met.

The Health Navigator will be committed to engaging and networking with community partners, coordinating patient recruitment for the study, and providing operational support across 33 distinct communities. Through the research project, this position will strive for the removal of patient barriers to care and the reconciliation of mainstream healthcare systems with Indigenous worldviews and lived experiences. The Health Navigator will work closely with the research project team, which may include medical doctors, researchers, and other support staff, to promote positive health outcomes for Indigenous communities.

- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Travel to northern First Nation communities;
- Recruit, support, and oversee community research participants on both an operational scale as well as a governance scale via the establishment of a community research advisory committee;
- Serve as the main point of contact for community research participants and partners; and act as the on-site representative at community-level events, managing on-site logistics and facility requirements as needed;
- Serve as primary contact and coordinator for the communities and community partners;
- Collaborate on operational plans, provide organizational support, and liaise with research project stakeholders;
- Communicate with research project team members to facilitate community patient recruitment and engagement, ensuring that this process occurs within a culturally safe and respectful environment;
- Make recommendations for improvement to operations, in collaboration with community partners and research project team, to ensure that community needs are incorporated in all aspects of research project operations;
- Keep up-to-date records and gather data to provide periodic reports and updates;
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with institutional policies;
Qualifications:
- A graduate degree, preferably in a related field such as nursing, social work, or education, along with formal training and three to five years of relevant experience. A suitable combination of significant experience and education may be considered;
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities with a proven track record of building positive relationships;
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, families, and children;
- Experience with the handling, managing, and disclosing of private health information, via communication with patients, their caregivers, and medical providers;
- Exercises judgement, tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work under pressure, both individually and as a member of a team, within a variety of settings;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders;
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable in meeting shifting priorities;
- Able to travel within and between communities in Saskatchewan, and occasionally within Canada and internationally;
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
- Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks.

**Salary**: APT Pay grade 7
