CHEO RI has an immediate requirement for a Research Ethics Coordinator.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Research Ethics Board (REB) team. The individual will assist in execution of activities related to the mandate of the CHEO REB to ensure human research conducted under the auspices of CHEO is congruent with CHEO’s Safety First philosophy and complies with all ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements. This is a unique opportunity to play a fundamental role in enabling the ethical conduct of health research at CHEO and CHEO RI.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the REB Manager, the Research Ethics Coordinator will:

- Coordinate all matters involving the administration of the Research Ethics Office;
- Coordinate all REB submissions through the life cycle of studies;
- Lead the conduct of initial assessments of new ethics protocol submissions to determine whether they meet requirements for submission;
- Conduct risk-based assessments of new ethics protocol submissions to determine the appropriate level of review;
- Proactively identify protocols or inquiries that have institutional policy or risk implications;
- Manage annual renewals of studies;
- Conduct scientific reviews of retrospective research protocols;
- Support REB members with training requirements and other required documentation;
- Act as a resource and contact for communications with the Research Ethics Office, including ethics-related queries;
- Act as liaison with the REB, investigators, and researchers and communicates REB decisions to research teams;
- Participate in Committees and Working Groups on behalf of the REB;
- Assist the REB Manager, as required, in executing the mandate of the REB;
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILL AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor level education in a health-related field or equivalent combination of education/experience; (Essential)
- Two years’ experience in a clinical and/or health research setting; (Essential)
- Knowledge of Tri-Council Policy and Ethical Conduct for Research involving Human Subjects; (Essential)
- Superior organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines; (Essential)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; (Essential)
- Excellent independent judgement and diplomacy; (Essential)
- Demonstrated interpersonal and problem-solving skills; (Essential)
- Demonstrated collegiality, professionalism and team skills; (Essential)
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work independently; (Essential)
- Proficiency with multiple platforms; adapts well to changing technology; (Essential)
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset. (preferred)

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Significant external pressures and demands of stakeholders;
- Long hours on computer and in meetings.
- 100% Remote

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Eligible to work in Canada;
- Compliance with CHEO RI’s Universal COVID-19 Vaccination Policy; and
