Laboratory Technician

**JOB SUMMARY**:
UNDER THE GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE PROGRAM DEAN OF GRAPHIC & WEB DESIGN (GWD), AND THE FUNCTIONAL SUPERVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, THE GWD TECHNICIAN WILL MAINTAIN THE CLASSROOM, LABS AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED BY THE GWD DEPARTMENT, AND ASSIST FACULTY AND STUDENTS IN THESE SPACES AS NEEDED.UNDER THE GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE PROGRAM DEAN of GWD, AND THE FUNCTIONAL SUPERVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, THE GWD TECHNICIAN WILL MAINTAIN THE CLASSROOM, LABS AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED BY THE GWD DEPARTMENT, AND ASSIST FACULTY AND STUDENTS IN THESE SPACES AS NEEDED.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Configuring and maintaining the department’s inventory, including departmental equipment, supplies and consumables
- Ordering supplies to maintain inventory
- Providing assistance to students and faculty
- Acting as a liaison between the GWD and ITS departments regarding IT related issues and requests
- Controlling, managing, recording and lending of equipment to students and or faculty
- Coordinating and reviewing the hardware proposed by ITS (capital request) for lab refresh
- Tracking and maintaining list of all departmental assets
- Keeping abreast of current technological innovations in the GWD field
- Assisting in all GWD (vernissage, Brand Expo, Stage Debrief etc) and JAC promotional events (Open house, information night, etc)
- Documenting of procedures, issues and resolutions
- Being available to support GWD teachers in labs and offices
- Support the running and scheduling of labs
- Be responsible for related tasks as assigned

**RESPONSIBLE FOR LAB MAINTENANCE INCLUDING**:

- Ensuring adequate printer toner, ink and paper supply
- Responding to requests to clear the labs and office printer cues when print job errors jam the production
- Calibration of lab monitors for color accuracy using the department’s calibration hardware tools
- Maintaining inventory of digital cameras, iPADS, drawing tablets, tripods and accessories
- Managing lending of all digital cameras, drawing tablets, iPADS, tripods and accessories
- Ensuring all digital cameras and iPADS have charged batteries before classes where they are required
- Ensuring all accessory software (plugins, color profiles etc.) are installed and accessible by students
- Maintaining the large format color printer and operate it on behalf of the students
- Ensuring labs are clean (including scanners, lenses and monitors)
- Performing daily pre-class lab checks of teaching workstation, projectors and smart board, printers (including clearing printer queues) and monitoring consumables (ink, paper and toner)

**EDUCATION**:
To have a college diploma in GWD or related field or a diploma or an attestation of studies, which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

**SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS**

- Ability to work collaboratively with college support staff and faculty

- Willingness to upgrade skills and stay current technologically
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Self-motivated, autonomous and proactive

**Preferred Assets**:

- 2+ years of work experience
- Knowledge of the use and maintenance of DSLR cameras, and Audio Visual equipment such as projectors
- Familiarity with macOS
- Familiarity in configuring Mac workstations for Adobe Creative Cloud suite based photography and video editing workflows
- Familiarity with CPanel (or equivalent) end-user web hosting software
- Familiarity with FTP/SFTP file transfer software (FileZilla)
- Familiarity with connecting to SMB/CIFS network shares on macOS
- Familiarity with Microsoft OneDrive
- Familiarity with the WordPress environment

**Required Tests**:
Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of:
English (Advanced - oral and written)
