Job Description Summary
The Department of Physical Therapy is growing The Department provides the only provincial program for the education of entry-to-practice physical therapists and has distributed education sites at three locations around the province (UBC Point Grey, UNBC and the Fraser Valley). This position has the option of arranging a hybrid work schedule and is based out of the UBC Point Grey Campus.
The Department of Physical Therapy’s Education Technology Manager will provide support to faculty and external instructors in developing and updating curriculum materials for online and distributed education as well as educational materials to support continuing professional development. This role is also the point of contact and administrator for the learning management system, Canvas. The incumbent will assist in the implementation of the distributed MPT Program by working with the PT Programs Manager and the Administration Manager to develop policies, procedures and training materials related to education technology and curriculum materials for a remote or distributed learning environment.
Organizational Status
The Department provides the only provincial program for the education of entry-to-practice physical therapists. Through rigorous scholarly activity, high standards of instruction and creative opportunities for learning, the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program provides a strong foundation that supports the current and future practice of the profession. The Department is also a research-intensive unit with award winning faculty conducting state-of-the art healthcare research.
This role is part of the Master of Physical Therapy team and reports directly to the Physical Therapy Programs Manager. They also work in consultation with the Associate Head of the MPT Program and the Associate Head of Clinical Education.
Work Performed
Instructional Design Support:
- Assist Faculty and external instructors in preparing materials for online and distributed education. This includes designing and editing content provided by experts, updating and editing content as
needed; translating content into web-based formats. Makes recommendations to course authors and external instructors in the development of educational processes and materials.
- Assists in the programming of online modules and learning artifacts using software and media authoring tools for e-learning.
- Performs regular assessment and updates to existing online modules and educational materials. Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of designed materials.
- Oversees the department's learning management system, CANVAS: Managing access, providing advice and guidance to faculty in the use of education technologies and learning management systems in the remote and/or distributed learning environments.
- Maintains and updates a common look and feel for department CANVAS sites in-keeping with UBC Branding and guidelines.
- Ensures appropriate learner access to resources.
- Coordinates with MedIT and classroom support staff the recording of sessional material as requested. Establishes a procedure to archive material and provide access to learners when required.
Implementation of Distributed and Online/Blended Education
- Training, Developing Policies, Continuous improvements:
- Prepares training materials to support faculty in the use of education technologies and learning management systems in the remote and/or distributed learning environments.
- Develops departmental best practices for delivering remote/distributed content.
- Maintain and upgrade applicable job skills as identified and required.
