**What You’ll Do**

Main Purpose of the Team

The role of the Tax team is to manage and oversee Specsaver’s tax compliance and planning strategies across its national operations.

Main Purpose of the Role

This position is responsible for assisting in ensuring tax compliance, carrying out tax planning activities, and coordinating with auditors, among other responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparation of tax returns (T2) for the group entities - growing to roughly 200+ in the next 2 years, along with relevant forms such as T106, T5, T4A, etc. as applicable
- Assist in preparation and filing of GST, PST, and other sales tax returns monthly (expected to grow to 200+ returns across multiple Provinces) and perform monthly reconciliations
- Assist with identification of tax planning opportunities and relevant research and execution of corporate re-organization related tax-matters
- Assist in managing and coordinating tax audits (including but not limited to GST/ PST/ corporate tax), including assisting with representations, and enquiries from Federal, provincial and/or State tax authorities
- Assist with new store registrations including but not limited to GST / HST, Provincial sales taxes, online accounts set ups and all other related compliances
- Perform research and prepare memos relating to changes in tax laws and tax accounting guidance and support with reorganization projects from time to time
- Assist in preparation of calculations for distributions for all stores along with appropriate legal documentation
- Provide an ad hoc support in relation to other any commercial arrangements

**What We’re Looking For**

Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Accounting or related field of study;
- Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act and technical aspects of tax compliance.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in the tax field with a public accounting firm or tax department of a company;
- Advance knowledge of Excel
- Self-motivation with an ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Strong analytical skills and creativity to identify problems and potential solutions
- Strong project management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects with conflicting timelines

Desirable Skills
- CPA Designation
- Experience in dealing with transfer pricing, and tax review
- Knowledge of Tax-Prep IFirm systems is an asset
