The Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN), established in 1998, is a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the health and lives of people living with and at risk of HIV by using data and evidence to drive change. We work with three main types of partners -- 1) testing programs and clinics; 2) AIDS service and other community-based organizations; and 3) policy and system leaders within and beyond the health sector - to support the implementation of the provincial HIV strategy, priorities, and directions

**ABOUT THE ROLE**

This position reports to the Senior Lead, Epidemiology & Surveillance and carries out epidemiologic research and reporting activities, including: reviewing epidemiologic literature; developing research protocols and analysis plans; conducting research and analysis; summarizing and interpreting information; preparation of reports and manuscripts; liaison and collaboration with public health partners. The primary responsibility is to support HIV surveillance reporting for the province through the creation of knowledge products.

**Liaison and teamwork**:

- Represent the OHTN at the request of the Senior Lead, Epidemiology & Surveillance and/or the Senior Director, Science on epidemiologic research projects, including with internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate and facilitate the Ontario HIV Epidemiology and Surveillance Initiative (OHESI) Technical Working Group.
- Provide mentorship to and supervision of trainees and junior Epidemiologists.
- Work with the OHTN Cohort Study (OCS) data on analyses in support of the OHESI.
- Transparency regarding activities with full documentation accessible to other team-members as needed, for sustainability.
- Prepare information, discussion, and decision notes and any other requested background information for the OHESI.

**Epidemiologic skills**:

- Critically approach problems to prepare appropriate epidemiologic/statistical analysis plans, implement them, and interpret findings.
- Analyze data using a multi-layered understanding of epidemiology, public health, health care, and determinants of health.
- Seek to continuously improve data systems and methodologic approaches, in order to improve quality of data and outputs.

**Knowledge translation**:

- Develop knowledge translation products in a variety of formats including fact sheets, website content, technical reports, manuscripts, briefing notes, that are suitable to a variety of key stakeholders.
- Ensure timely and effective communication and meeting agreed-on deliverables and deadlines.
- Synthesize and summarize information for effective presentations, and engages in discussion about findings, with key stakeholders (including Community AIDS Service Organizations, and public health).
- Circulate drafts to OHESI partners and stakeholders for feedback and responds appropriately.

**Research**:

- Conduct literature reviews necessary to inform analysis plans, prepare knowledge translation products, and to develop research proposals.
- Communicate, support, and collaborate with multidisciplinary and community-based researchers conducting epidemiologic research in Ontario.

**ABOUT YOU**
- Graduate degree at the Master’s level or higher in epidemiology, public health, or a related field
- Knowledgeable in the design, implementation and conduct of epidemiologic research studies and their interpretation
- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite
- Knowledge of concepts and procedures related to safeguarding privacy of health information
- Demonstrated skills in epidemiologic and statistical analysis methods and use of appropriate software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS)
