- The Dietitian works collaboratively within an inter-professional environment and applies advanced knowledge and skill to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nutrition goals and care plans for patients with HIV/AIDS who experience multiple nutrition problems as a result of the chronic progression of HIV and related diseases, treatment modality, concomitant pathologies and medications. The Dietitian conducts nutrition research and participates in ongoing quality assurance and risk management programs and provides clinical nutrition services to support the management of patients of the Women and Family HIV Centre of BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre.

**What you’ll do**
- Conduct nutrition assessment of pediatric, pre-natal and adult patients utilizing age appropriate standards and guidelines, physical nutrition assessment, identification of relevant data and advanced clinical techniques such as comprehensive knowledge of nutrient and drug interactions/toxicities, body composition measurement utilizing bioelectrical impedance, disease progression, wasting and other treatment related sequelae such as osteoporosis, dyslipidemia and diabetes.
- Consider factors such as quality of life, cultural and socioeconomic situation, provides recommendations including home enteral nutrition support, as required based on assessment and treatment plan to health care team regarding nutrition management of the patient. Develop, implement and monitor patient response to age/lifecycle appropriate nutrition goals and care plans taking into account factors such as readiness for change, socioeconomic situation, substance abuse and ability to modify eating patterns. Document nutrition care plan and recommendations at each stage of the nutrition care process according to established format and policy, time-lines and legal requirements.
- Monitor patient response to the nutrition care plan through methods such as reviewing metabolic parameters, nutrient intake, gut function, growth, weight and body composition, prenatal weight gain patterns and resolution of symptoms. Adjust care plans as required. Consult with the patient/family, the physician and other health care professionals as appropriate regarding the patient’s response to the plan and ability to meet goals. Make recommendations to the team and/or patient for changes or adjustments, such as home enteral nutrition support, as required.
- Act as a clinical resource person to the Oak Tree Clinic interdisciplinary team, and other health care professionals throughout the hospital, as well as community hospitals and community health care professionals and agencies throughout British Columbia and Canada on the nutritional management of adults, children and pregnant women with HIV/AIDS.
- Act as a consultant to community agencies in developing programs and services to meet the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. Participate on advisory groups to develop nutrition action plans.

**What you bring**
- Graduation from an academic program in dietetics approved by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
- Three (3) years recent related clinical experience including pediatric and adult HIV nutrition care, or an equivalent combination of experience and advanced training/education specific to HIV/AIDS.
- Full registration in the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
- You will have:

- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nutrition theory and practice in health and disease.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Dietitians of B.C.
- Knowledge of the HIV disease process and its effects on nutrition, body composition and metabolic parameters.
- Comprehensive knowledge and interpretation of body composition parameters as provided by highly specialized technology, e.g., bioelectric impedence analysis
- Ability to design, implement and monitor pediatric/adult therapeutic diets delivered via oral and enteral routes.
- Ability to develop protocols in relation to HIV/AIDS treatment
- Comprehensive ability to plan and implement nutrition care plans in relation to HIV/AIDS treatment modalities and patient/family priorities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of harm reduction and the ability to work effectively in a harm reduction model of care.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate students at the post-secondary education level
- Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
