- The Dietitian applies advanced knowledge and skill to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nutrition goals and care plans for according to best practices which may include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) motivational enhancement therapy (MET). The Dietitian works collaboratively with patients, families, program health care providers and community health care providers to create supportive environments that promote healthy eating and active living behaviours. The Dietitian examines the possibility of linkages to community resources, acts as a resource to community health care professionals on the appropriate nutritional management of this population group, develops education resources and provides education to support patients, participates in nutrition research, ongoing quality assurance and risk management programs.

**What you’ll do**
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments in a joint or multidisciplinary collaborative model, utilizing advanced knowledge and expertise of the medical risks in complex chronic diseases such as Fibromyalgia, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Lyme disease, to assist patients in understanding the impact of their diet on the illness.
- Develop and implement individual nutrition care plans based upon comprehensive assessments, utilizing appropriate standards and guidelines, and incorporating individual client's disease condition, lifecycle stages, culture, and religion to ensure nutritional requirements are met.
- Provide comprehensive individual and group counselling to normalize the eating experience by methods such as determining the appropriate counselling methods including cognitive behavioral therapy to identify dysfunctional thoughts regarding food, body image and exercise to support them with the process of change; motivational enhancement therapy for eliciting behaviour change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence or barriers; and food related experientials such as responsibility in menu choices, cooking group, and restaurant group.
- Participate in the triage process, and team meetings by providing expert opinion related to the nutritional care of the patient, working collaboratively within an interprofessional environment, and utilizing knowledge of chronic complex diseases including co-morbid illness, medical and psychological complications, to assist in the development of comprehensive treatment plans
- Participate in evaluating and developing nutritional care guidelines and clinical pathways based on current literature/research and in collaboration with the team, the professional practice leader, the Program Manager and other centres/agencies to inform, develop and measure best practice guidelines
- Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient education and nutrition care resources, provide ongoing continuous planning and assessment of treatment protocols and act as a clinical resource person to dietitians, physicians and health care professionals by providing guidance for program delivery and the management of individual cases.

**What you bring**
- Graduation from an academic program in dietetics approved by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia supplemented by coursework in nutrition counselling.
- Full registration in the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
- Three (3) years recent, related clinical experience including experience in a chronic disease management area or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

**You will have**
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nutrition theory and practice in health and disease, nutrition issues relevant to community health and public health,knowledge of chronic complex diseases such as fibromyalgia, myalgic encephalitis, lyme disease, and their effects on nutrition, body composition, metabolic parameters and behaviour.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nutrition education principles, methods and delivery techniques for patients with complex chronic diseases for example: fibromyalgia, myalgic encephalitis, lyme disease, or other chronic illnesses.
- Comprehensive knowledge of counselling strategies such as Cognitive Based Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy and their utilization in complex chronic disease management
- The ability to plan, implement and evaluate nutrition care plans in relation to complex chronic disease management treatment modalities and patient/family priorities.
- Demonstrated your ability to develop and implement nutrition standards of care, guidelines and protocols in relation to complex chronic disease treatment modalities.
