**ESL LINC Instructor - PT PRE-LINC multilevel In-person class (2 positions, 1 for CLB 3 / CLB 4 level and one for CLB 5 / CLB 6 level).**

**About ASSIST**: ASSIST Community Services Centre has provided settlement support to newcomers since 1977. Our Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program is a federally funded program providing immigrants and refugees with the English language and cultural skills necessary for life in Canada. We offer a variety of full-time and part-time classes in southwest Edmonton. We strongly value a diverse and multilingual workforce. **This position reports to the LINC Program Coordinator / LINC Program Manager.**

**Position Summary**: The PRE- LINC Instructor is responsible for the planning, delivery, and assessment of ESL language instruction to adult newcomer students in preparation to start their learning in LINC program, as well as providing required reports and documentation to the Program Manager.

**Class Description and cycle of teaching**:

- This Multilevel LINC Readiness Prep Classes class will be 2 months (8-weeks) in length. There will be 5 per year, using the following cycles: January-February, March-April, May-June, September-October and November-December.
- These classes will be from 9 am to 12 noon,
- Three classes and levels: CLB 1-CLB2 and CLB 3-4 in-person, and CLB 5-6 hybrid (1 to 3 weeks in person, 5 to 7 weeks online, depending of the students’ needs)

**JOB DUTIES INCLUDE**:

- Organizing coursework and learning materials
- Conducting activities and lessons based on ESL Teaching methodologies and including the following modules:

- Intro to PBLA
- Intro to Language Companion an e-binder
- Digital Literacy Skills following a set curriculum provided
- Learning Strategies
- Basic Grammar Skills
- Basic Soft skills (including DEI, Etiquette and Netiquette).
- Assess student performance by creating Summative Assessments after finishing a module.
- Collaborate with members of the LINC instructional and administrative team to share experience, ideas, initiatives, and to support each other in creating a cohesive team environment for all staff and students
- Manage the classroom to ensure an optimum learning environment working with culturally diverse populations
- Collaborate with members of the Pre-LINC Team to develop and write the curriculum for PRE-LINC Classes.
- Upload all lesson plans, materials developed, including handouts, ppts, etc, to the shared Pre-LINC drive.
- Attend and participate in regular staff meetings and relevant professional development opportunities, including conferences. Online or in-person.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance registers, and submit all required documents including final summative assessment reports.
- Utilize formative as a part of regular Google classroom class assignments.
- Able to complete Students Progress Reports and attendance records using iStedy.
- Adhere to all ASSIST and funder policies and expectations

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Teaching English recognized by TESL Canada
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, linguistics, or related field.
- TESL Canada certification.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Previous teaching experience preferred
- Complete the CLB bootcamp and provide certificate.
- Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity of Canadian Language Benchmarks, Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA), and Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT)
- Good knowledge of Canada and Canadian culture, experience living and working in Canada
- Experience with multi-cultural clientele, especially those with limited English skills
- Able to work independently without supervision and contribute to a team
- Highly organized, with exceptional time-management, decision-making, and prioritization skills
- Strong computer skills
- Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- First-aid training an asset

**Job Types**: Part-time, Contract
Contract length: 7 months
Part-time hours: 16 per week

**Salary**: From $42.00 per hour
