Intake Counsellor

Victoria Child Abuse Prevention & Counselling Centre (VCAPCC) is posting a 0.8 FTE **Intake Counsellor**, unionized (BCGEU) position, to act as the first point of contact for all children, youth, families, and community partners are who are making referrals and inquiries to the Centre for services and supports.
**Qualifications**
- M.A., M.S.W or M.Ed. or equivalent of experience or education in counselling or human services related field (Child and Youth Care, Social Worker, Counselling, Victim Services) preferred. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Valid registration (or eligibility to be registered) with the BCACC or equivalent professional registration association.
- Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience with people and/or clients where abuse is suspected or confirmed.
- Direct experience working with children, youth and families impacted by abuse, trauma, and violence, as well as individual and group support and psycho-education individually, and crisis management skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create and maintain a welcoming, friendly, safe and respectful environment which affirms and promotes the dignity of children and adults with diverse backgrounds, interests and needs.
- An in-depth knowledge of child development, abuse dynamics, family systems and mental health issues, brief counselling services, crisis support.
- Knowledge of child protection and legal systems.
- Ability to work independently, as a member of a professional team and with groups.
- Competent computer knowledge and skills.
- Ability to practice your own self-care and maintain your own wellness.
- Provide evidence of a clear criminal record check.
- Cultural competence and knowledge about the impact of historical and intergenerational trauma and how it relates to contemporary social issues with Indigenous peoples.
- An intentional commitment of 2 years with our organization is preferred.
**Details**
This position is open to all genders. Hours of work per week are **28hrs** at VCAPCC’s main office located at 101-1208 Wharf St. This position paid at CSSEA/BCGEU **Grid 16-P, **a starting **hourly rate of $37.66-46.15 **depending on step level. Health and welfare benefits will be provided after successfully completing a probationary period of **455hrs. **This position is eligible for the Municipal Pension Plan after 2 years of continuous employment.
