**Job Title: Finance Clerk**

**Department: Finance**

**Status: Full-time, Contract until March 31, 2024 (possible extension)**
**Rate: $26.04-30.47 per hour**

**Closing Date: August 11, 2023**

**Position**:
The focus of this position is to fulfill all accounting functions and responsibilities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Walpole Island
First Nation philosophy, financial regulations and mission statements.

**Requirements**:
A) SKILLS
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and balance a diversified workload.
- Ability to interpret By-laws, governmental regulations, contracts and funding agreements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must have excellent accounting knowledge.
- Must be computer literate with comprehensive knowledge of computerized accounting systems and Excel spreadsheets. Knowledge of AccPac systems preferred.
- Self-directed as well as ability to work cooperatively and respectfully in a team setting.

B) EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years progressive accounting experience, including month-end and year-end reconciliations and analysis.
- Experience working with/for a First Nations community an asset.

C) EDUCATION
- Minimum of grade 12 and one year of post-secondary education or equivalent in
- accounting.
- Preference will be given to those with a Post-secondary Dipl. in Finance or

Business Administration with a major in accounting AND/OR enrolment in a designated accountant program.
D) OTHER
- Clear criminal record check.
- Must be bondable.
- Driver’s license and reliable transportation an asset.

**Responsibilities**:

- Processing, verifying and recording financial information; preparing and posting journal entries and reconciling accounts; maintaining the accounts payable, accounts receivable, Canadian Payroll and general ledger; preparing financial statements and other reports.
- Ensuring finance activities are in accordance with the WIFN Financial Regulations, government regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Assist other departments with financial activities as required.
- To provide guidance and direction to casual labourers as required. May be required to provide some supervision in the absence of the supervisor.
- Responsible for completing payroll, bank reconciliations, bank deposits, statements, analyzing financial information for accuracy.
- Preparing funding agency reports, and coding if required
- Maintain current knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations, by-laws, and funding agreements which could impact upon the financial responsibilities of the Walpole Island First Nation.
- Assist with the yearly auditing process and ensure financial records and reports are complete and performed in a timely manner.
- Prioritize and complete responsibilities in a timely manner to ensure financial reports are prepared as scheduled.
- Assist with compiling budget data and documents based on estimated revenues and expenses and previous budgets.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and other Walpole Island First Nation programs/services, and suppliers.
- Assist community members by providing the necessary information or referring to the appropriate service/program.
- Ensure confidentiality of employee and community member information is maintained at all times.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Finance Administrator.
