Farm Manager's Assistant

Aldergrove, Canada Kensington Prairie Farm Ltd. Full time

Under the direction of the Manager, the Manager’s Assistant is required to:

- feed and tend livestock (alpacas, cattle) and poultry, including cleaning barns and pens;
- assist with animal husbandry duties in conjunction with other farm staff;
- assist in the maintenance of facilities and farm infrastructure, including field/pasture maintenance (check fences/gates, sprinkler set-up/rotation, noxious week removal, pasture mowing, etc.) and garden maintenance, as directed;
- assist with hay loading, snow removal and other ‘seasonal’ tasks, as required;
- Develop a thorough knowledge of alpaca fibre and promote its attributes and benefits to customers in order to help the customer make a purchasing decision;
- Responsible for opening and closing the store, including cashing out;
- Greet and welcome customers in a friendly and engaging manner and proceed to help them with their shopping experience;
- Promote specialty products and sale items in a manner that best serves the needs of the individual customer;
- Provide customers with the best possible shopping experience;
- Handle customer complaints in accordance with company policy;
- Process sales transactions at the POS (point-of-sale) counter;
- Receive inventory, ticket & price new items, stock, replenish and organize merchandise displays, as required;
- Arrange and promote new stock and/or special sale/clearance items at the front of the store for maximum visibility;
- Assist with store’s cash and inventory including daily cash reconciliation, receiving merchandise, price changes, ticketing merchandise, and proper accounting and reporting as required;
- Take photographs of new products, create written product descriptions and upload information to the online store platform;
- Add, delete and update online store inventory items, ensuring adequate stock levels, etc.
- General housekeeping duties, including vacuuming, washing and dusting;
- Other duties as required/assigned by Manager

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- basic farm knowledge (usually obtained from working on a family farm or similar work situation but employer willing to train);
- equipment operation including utility vehicle, Avant loader (training provided), riding lawnmower, and other small farm equipment;
- ability to understand and follow information and instruction presented;
- good interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with others;
- personal initiative and demonstrated willingness to learn new tasks;
- familiar with occupational health and safety policies/procedures.

**Additional Information**:

- weekend work plus additional week-days, number of which are dependent upon seasonal farm workload;
- suitable for a university/college student or individual seeking permanent part-time year-round employment. Can lead to full-time summer work (May through September).

**Salary**: $16.75-$19.00 per hour
