Reporting to the Vice President
- N'doo'owe Binesi (the "VP") with a matrix reporting relationship with the Director Director - Indigenous Health (the "Director", the Elder in Residence is responsible for providing cultural and spiritual guidance and support to all aspects of the N'doo'owe Binesi division within St. Joseph's Care Group (SJCG). In collaboration with the VP and Director, The Elder in Residence will provide guidance to the N'doo'owe Binesi, programs and services, to achieve cultural safety & humility within the organization. The Elder in Residence will serve as a key position to provide wisdom and council and serve as a liaison to the SJCG, Board of Directors, Leadership Team, Management Team, staff and other key committees in order to advance Indigenous cultural practices of the organization and ensure Indigenous Knowledge, perspectives and approaches to health and wellness are honoured within the organization.

Key responsibilities include serving as a key member of the Ogichidaa Onaakonigewin (Elders Council), providing divisional guidance to N'doo'owe Binesi and supporting the Indigenous Health management team and staff. Additional responsibilities include providing personal consultation, guidance, mentorship to staff within SJCG and facilitating Sharing Circles for staff and team members, client and families.

**Qualifications**:
**Education/Experience**:

- An individual who is of Indigenous ancestry with an in-depth understanding of Indigenous culture and tradition, worldview, history, ceremonies, and language
- Recognized as an Elder by community as having lived experience and commitment to Indigenous traditional culture
- Minimum 5 years' experience sharing and teaching with Indigenous People in the health or social service field
- Experience and knowledge of medicines, traditional healing, ceremonies and cultural teachings
- Extensive community development or partnership building experience with Indigenous community needs
- Ability to speak Ojibwe or Oji-Cree is preferred

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including community partners within the Indigenous community
- Proven judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters
- Ability to support the multi-faith context
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams
- Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

**CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**
Will be required to travel to various work locations as required and provide own transportation
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Criminal Records & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
