**A Day in the Life**

Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety & Wellness, the Occupational Health & Safety Specialist assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of a broad spectrum of Health, Safety, and Wellness (HSW) programs. The incumbent also provides professional resource and expertise on occupational health and safety related topics for maintaining a healthy and safe work environment.

**As the Occupational Health & Safety Specialist, you will**:

- Liaise with responsible parties to assist in investigating workplace injuries, accidents and near misses;
- Assist in preparing recommendations for prevention and ensure implementation of corrective actions;
- Assess, evaluate and monitor potential workplace hazards and provide hazard control and mitigation strategies;
- Act as the main contact to applicable regulatory bodies;
- Serve as a resource to faculties and departments to adhere to sound practices and applicable legislative compliance;
- Coordinate, facilitate and provide advice/guidance to the University’s Joint Health & Safety Committees;
- Provide assistance in the development of comprehensive HSW programs by conducting research, and drafting program development plans for the Director, HSW;
- Implement HSW programs campus-wide to ensure stakeholder knowledge of legislation; standards and responsibilities regarding occupational health and safety;
- Raise HSW awareness to the campus community by coordinating appropriate education and training;
- Maintain an employee event risk management program and review and provide additional risk mitigation strategies.

**What you need to Succeed**
- College diploma or University degree in Health and Safety, Industrial hygiene or other relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of education will also be considered;
- Relevant experience in Occupational Health & Safety, including working with multiple stakeholders in a complex work environment;
- Knowledge of provincial and federal government regulations and acts related to Health and Safety;
- Ability to stay abreast of industry developments, relevant legislation and regulations;
- Experience with project management and managing multiple projects from inception to implementation working with multiple stakeholders;
- Ability to interact diplomatically and tactfully with various stakeholders;
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment with challenging deadlines.

**Salary and Benefit Information**
- Job Grade L, Salary Scale ($57,518 - $78,479)*
- This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
