As an integral part of the management team, the Deputy Fire Chief of Community Safety is responsible for providing leadership, operational expertise and financial accountability. Working closely with key Fire Department and City staff this new position will be critical in helping Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service meet the current and future needs of one of Canada’s fastest growing communities.
The Deputy Fire Chief of Community Safety will be responsible for oversight of the Emergency Management, Fire Prevention, and Training Divisions. Reporting to the Fire Chief, the successful applicant will play a key role in managing long-term risk reduction programs and risk-based emergency response for British Columbia’s fifth largest city.
Minimum Grade 12 and Fire Officer 3 certification or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 15 years of directly related experience in the fire and emergency services field
A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a safe driving record
A Diploma or Degree or a combination of related post-secondary education and experience
Supervisory experience in a composite unionized and paid-on-call fire service organization
Relevant experience in labour relations and collective bargaining
